The new video features all of the new actors re-enacting their characters' actions from the original main title theme from Season 2 of the original series, set to the original theme song performed by Polly Cutter. The opening theme for the original show’s first season was much different, showing divorced mother Barbara Cooper (Bonnie Franklin) moving her two children (Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli), but it was changed to this now-iconic theme for Season 2, comprised of scenes from the first season. The original series was created by Whitney Blake and Allan Manings, and developed by TV legend Norman Lear, based on Whitney Blake’s experience of raising her three kids, one of whom was future actress Meredith Baxter-Birney, after her divorce from her first husband. It isn’t clear if theNetflix original serieswill change its opening title scene for the second season as well.

The one big difference in this re-creation is Stephen Tobolowsky’s new character Dr. Leslie Berkowitz, who is seen at the end of this new video adjusting the camera before joining the family picture. This character wasn’t featured in the original series, but in this series, he portrays the boss of Justina Machado’s Penelope and family friend. While it remains to be seen when new footage of theNetflix remake, will debut, Season 2 will feature new cast member Ed Quinn as an EMT who reunites with Penelope after they served together in Kabul. They both reunite at the hospital Penelope works at, and the character could become a potential love interest.
