The next film from acclaimed directorPaul Thomas Andersonhas had some interesting marketing thus far, with the film having received only a couple of teaser trailers and one poster. The director, who is best known for classic films such asThere Will Be BloodandBoogie Nights, has famously kept many of the plot details of his films secret up until release. The same can be said forOne Battle After Another, which is due for release in September, with still next to nothing known about the movie besides the basic plot, in which Leonardo DiCaprio’s character takes action in the search for his daughter.
The first trailer, released three months ago, showcased some exciting imagery, painting the film asthe most action-packed that Anderson has madethus far. Now, a new 44-second teaser (which can be viewed below) features additional footage from the upcoming film, including more dialogue from Benicio del Toro’s character, Sensei Sergio. This latest teaser places more emphasis on Bob’s (DiCaprio) mission to find his daughter (Chase Infiniti), while also teasing his former life as a revolutionary alongside his ex-wife, Perfidia Beverly Hills (Teyana Taylor).

Leonardo DiCaprio Fans Have at Least 5 New Movies To Get Excited About
Leonardo DiCaprio fans have plenty to look forward to. Here’s what’s in the pipeline.
One Battle After Anotheris Anderson’s first collaboration with DiCaprio, which has fans of both creatives especially excited about the film. It’s also yet another big blockbuster being released this year by Warner Bros., who have had quite the year with films from prestige directors, such as Bong Joon Ho’sMickey 17, andRyan Coogler’sSinners. However, the former would end up being a box office flop, while the latter would become one of the most profitable films of the year. The minimal marketing for the movie, so close to release, suggests that either the Studio doesn’t have confidence in the film or is keeping things intentionally vague to drive interest in it.

‘One Battle After Another’ is Unlike Anything Paul Thomas Anderson Has Done Before
One Battle After Anotherhas been reported as a loose adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Vineland,” with several story beats from the film aligning with the narrative in Pynchon’s book. Anderson isn’t a stranger to adapting the author’s work, having previously adapted another of Pynchon’s works,Inherent Vice, in 2014,into a movie that starred Joaquin Phoenix. Pynchon is an author known for his complex and sometimes hard-to-follow works, and “Vineland” is no exception, which might have proved a challenge for Anderson, who is adapting the story from what appears to be a more modern lens.
This newest 43-second trailer features plenty of chaos in what appears to be a modern-day America fraught with its own political tension, with characters discussing World War III, riots on the streets, and DiCaprio’s character amid intense action. Anderson hasn’t made a film that looks quite like this one, so it will be exciting to see how the filmmaker blends his mastery of character work and drama with action and suspense.

The film will undoubtedly be one of the more unique titles in the Fall 2025 theatrical release lineup, and is also set to be the firstPaul Thomas Anderson filmreleased in IMAX. This, combined with the fact that it could also technically be considered his first action film, could help drive anticipation for the film. Seeing remarkable and talented creators like Anderson get their ambitious projects greenlit is always a positive development, and one can only hope that the premium-format release and action-oriented marketing can help make the movie a hit for the legendary director.
