How many casinos have the mother and father of Danny and Debbie Ocean knocked over? Ever wonder? Well, the word is out, and the newOcean’s Elevenfilm will feature Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the parents of the youngsters who grow up to become actors George Clooney and Sandra Bullock — well, the characters they play at any rate. And according to an exclusive report (perShowbiz 411), director Jay Roach’s upcoming movie will be titled simplyOceans.
The prequel will be set in the 1960s, as previously reported. And Mr. and Mrs. Ocean — not to be confused with Mr. and Mrs. Smith — will teach their kids to steal from the wealthy. However, there’s no guarantee they’ll give to the poor, like good ole Robin Hood. Mr. and Mrs. Ocean will, of course, have their own team. And it’ll be interesting to see if young Danny and Debbie will be a part of the thieving squad.
Virtual newcomer Carrie Solomon is writing the screenplay, which will mark the sixth installment in the film franchise. The original movie,Ocean’s 11, opened in theaters in August of 1960 and featured The Rat Pack among the lead cast. Ole blue eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, portrayed the role of Danny Ocean. But unlike the 2001 remake, the team of criminals aren’t able to pull off the perfect crime. Yes, the first film is “Oceans Apart” from the newer versions.

Director Jay Roach’sOceanswill reuniteBarbiestarsMargot Robbieand Ryan Gosling in the prequel’s lead roles. And while the new installment in theOcean’sfranchise won’t feature the bright-pink writing or directing magic of Greta Gerwig, Roach has the stars of the Mattel doll’s big-screen adaptation in place to portray the mother and father of future thieves Danny (George Clooney) and Debbie (Sandra Bullock) Ocean. And producerJosey McNamara promises to doOceansjustice. McNamara said in an interview withGamesRadar+:
“I can’t really say much, but I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready […] They’re wonderful together [Robbie and Gosling]. The more projects even outside of that we can have them do would be amazing.”
Robbie and Gosling’s star power should helpOceanslive up to its lineage and attract fans to theaters. There are already plenty of enthusiasts who have supported Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon’s trilogy ofOcean’sfilms. The 2011 remake did the best at the worldwide box office with $450.7 million. Plus,Ocean’s TwelveandOcean’s Thirteeneach made over $300 million globally.
WhenBullock took up the mantle inOcean’s 8, her film didn’t do as well as the others. However, the all-woman team of thieves still managed to bring in a total of $298 million. AndOcean’s 8actually had the second-best domestic take ($140.2 million) of the entire franchise. Only Clooney, Pitt and Damon’sOcean’s Elevendid better with $183.4 million in the United States.
At the time of this writing, Robbie and Gosling’sOceansdoesn’t have an official release date attached to the project.
