NBC is officially bringing backNight Courtwith original co-star John Larroquette returning to produce and reprise his Emmy-winning role. Melissa Rauch ofThe Big Bang Theoryis also on board to executive produce the project alongside Winston Rauch via their After January banner for Warner Bros. TV. Dan Rubin (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) will also executive produce in addition to writing the reboot.

At this time, there are no plans forMelissa Rauchto personally appear in the reboot, though the newNight Courtwas apparently her idea. As a part of her deal with Warner Bros. TV, Rauch approached the studio about developing a follow-up series to the originalNight Court, as she was a big fan who grew up with the series. The actress reportedly feels that the time is right for a reboot and that a new incarnation could do very well today.

Night Courtoriginally aired on NBC for nine seasons between 1984 and 1992. The series was set during the night shift of a Manhattan municipal court presided over by an unorthodox judge, Harry T. Stone, played by the late Harry Anderson.John Larroquetteco-starred as prosecutor Reinhold Daniel Fielding Elmore. As Anderson passed away in 2018, his presence will undoubtedly be missed in the reboot series, but Larroquette’s inclusion will still certainly help bring back some fans of the original show. There’s no word yet on if any other original stars will return.

In 2008,Night Courtfans also got to see a mini-reunion in an episode of the NBC comedy30 Rock. Though Larroquette wasn’t present, the episode featuredHarry Anderson, Markie Post, and Charles Robinson appearing as themselves. Anderson does mention having spoken to Larroquette, prompting an argument with Post as she hadn’t been in touch with John.

For his role on the series, Larroquette won four consecutive Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy awards. He’d later go on to win a fifthEmmyfor Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 1998 for the ABC showThe Practice. He also led his own sitcomThe John Larroquette Showin the mid-90s and had acclaimed roles on the TV seriesBoston LegalandThe Librarians. More recently, he starred in the short-lived sitcomMe, Myself & Iand had roles onThe Twilight ZoneandThe Good Fight.
