In celebration of the impending home release ofSuperman, DC Studios has released a new short starring a key character from the DCU film. Krypto, the super-powered dog under the temporary care of David Corenswet’s Superman, has quickly become a fan-favorite. Although he is also expected to appear in next year’sSupergirl, fans just got treated to more canine mayhem sooner than previously anticipated.

A new animated short titled “Krypto Saves the Day!” features the furry superhero taking flight and chasing down a pigeon, with hilarious results. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Superman story if it didn’t include a hero saving some lives. Krypto might be the reason why said lives are at stake, but he does his best nevertheless. The short film, produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran, will likely be available inthe home media releaseofSuperman. You can check it out below.

The newSupermanshort is a fun, bite-sized adventure for Krypto, but it could be a tease of what’s to come for the DCU. Gunn has already hinted thatan animated spin-off seriesfeaturing the canine hero might be in the works. While DC Studios has yet to announce such a project, they could be waiting to see how fans react to the newly-released short. After all, it seems the success ofSupermanwill lead to several other spin-offs featuring breakout characters from the 2025 film.

Several ‘Superman’ Spin-Offs Are in the Works

Aside from a potential Krypto series, it’s been reported that DC Studios isdeveloping several TV showsbased on characters fromSuperman. Mister Terrific, brilliantly played by Edi Gathegi, might be getting a spin-off, which makes a lot of sense considering he’s a key character in James Gunn’s superhero film. In the comics, Mister Terrific is a part of several acclaimed storylines, includingStrange Adventures, written by Tom King, andThe Terrifics, which has him forming his own superhero team. The latter featured Metamorpho (who’s inSuperman), Plastic Man, and Phantom Girl as DC’s version of The Fantastic Four.

AnotherSupermanstar getting his own television series is Skyler Gisondo, who plays Jimmy Olsen. This one is said to be an anthology that will focus on different villains from the DC Universe on a weekly basis. Judging by the fact that plot details have already surfaced, this project may be further along than the Mister Terrific series.Jimmy Olsenmay end up being the ultimate showcase for DC’s most iconic villains, including Darkseid. Yes, the Justice League foe made his debut in 1970 in a Jimmy Olsen comic, which has sparked speculation that he could make an appearance in the DCU show.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.' rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
