Disney has released a new TV spot and eleven character posters for their upcomingThe Lion Kingremake. The studio’s live-action adaptation ofAladdinhit theaters over the holiday weekend and ended up exceeding expectations at the global box office, despite the fact that some Disney fans were initially pretty upset over the way Will Smith looked as the Genie. Thankfully for the studio, the outrage has faded into distant background noise and they’re hoping the same thing happens forThe Lion King.

The Lion Kingis already on track to have thebiggest opening weekend out of all of the Disney live-action remakes. At this time, the movie is estimated to bring in between $180 million and $230 million, so things are definitely looking up at the moment. To capitalize on these early predictions, along with the official 50-day countdown to the release date, Disney has released a new TV spot and character posters for Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Sarabi, Scar, Timon, Pumbaa, Zazu, Rafiki, and the child versions of Simba and Nala.

In addition to Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner,Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and James Earl Jones,The Lion Kingalso features the voices of John Kani, Alfre Woodard John Oliver, Florence Kasumba, Eric André, Keegan-Michael Key, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph. Despite how realistic the CGI looks in the promotional material, no real-life animals were used during the production. While the movie was shot like a normal live-action movie, there are no real performances.

Jon Favreau says it was his goal to makeThe Lion Kinglook like a real BBC nature documentary as opposed to a straight animated remake. When looked at in this light, it certainly makes sense. There was an uproar over the whole “live-action vs. animation” debate when the first trailer arrived, but that seems to have settled down for the time being.
