At last, Netflix has finally released the very first trailer for the brand new season ofMystery Science Theater 3000! It has been a long wait but, even though this trailer is less than a minute long, it gives us every reason to think that this new batch of episodes will be worth it. It also doesn’t hurt anything that all of the episodes will be made available on the same day, so that fans can binge the entire season all at once. That is easily the best thing about the showfinding a home on Netflix, as opposed to a more traditional network.
Netflixdecided to finally release the very first teaser trailer for the long-awaited return ofMystery Science Theater 3000and it looks very much like the show we remember, even though there is an entirely new cast. The new season was ultimately picked up by Netflix, but initially came about as the result of an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign that raised a staggering $5.7 million. Because the campaign was so successful, we will be getting 14 brand new episodes all at once on Netflix in just a few short weeks. These new episodes will be the first newMST3Kepisodes produced in nearly 18 years.
The trailer doesn’t show us all that much, but it is more than enough to get fans more excited than they already were. The video does show a few clips from the movies that the new gang will be riffing on, but the teaser doesn’t reveal what movie or movies the clips are from. Though, there is a poster for a movie calledReptilicusfeatured in the video, which would imply that will be one of the movies featured in the new season. CreatorJoel Hodgsonseems to want the movies to be a surprise for viewers when the new season officially drops next month. We also get to seeJonah Rayas the new host and we get a look atFelicia DayandPatton Oswaltin action. There is also a bit of plot setup revealed here, in that, we seeJonah Rayresponding to a distress signal, only to be taken by Kinga Forester (Felicia Day) in order to continue the experiments thatJoel HodgsonandMike Nelsonwere subject to in previous seasons.
Outside of the fact that this footage looks totally authentic to what fans expect fromMystery Science Theater 3000, it also looks absolutely gorgeous. Part of the charm ofMST3Kis that things look a little chintzy, and that is still preserved here, but the sets and actual shots look excellent. Plus Crow (voiced byHampton Yout) andTom Servo(voiced byBaron Vaughn) look very much like the robots we know and love.
The brand new season ofMystery Science Theater 3000is set to arrive on NetflixFriday, April 14. So clear your calendars and get ready to binge in the not-too-distant-future. Be sure to check out the very first trailer forMystery Science Theater 3000season 11 for yourself below.
