Netflixhas revealed the shows that are returning to the streaming platform in late 2024, and it includes some big series, likeSquid GameSeason 2. Netflix first started producing original content over a decade ago, beginning with the seriesLilyhammerin 2012. Since then, the streaming platform’s library has expanded exponentially. Netflix is now filled with globally renowned and beloved dramas, thrillers, horror anthologies, sci-fi epics, dark and violent westerns, and foreign language hidden gems.
ViaTHR, Netflix’s co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, revealed the packed line-up of new and returning shows hitting Netflix in the second half of 2024 during the company’s first-quarter earnings call. The biggest announcement wasthe return ofSquid Game, which is the platform’s most popular show of all time. Gabriel Basso’sThe Night Agentwill also be getting a second season drop in late 2024. Sarandos then revealed thatCobra Kai’s sixth (and final) season will be released later this year. The popular showsOuter Banks,Monster(the anthology series), andEmily in Pariswill also receive new seasons in late 2024.
Among the returning shows, Ted Sarandos also teased some of the new shows hitting Netflix in late 2024.The Perfect Couple, starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber, adapted from Elin Hilderbrand’s novel, is among the most anticipated new releases. The limited documentary series,Senna, will take an inside look at the career of the legendary Brazilian F1 driver, Ayrton Senna. Netflix’s newest western,American Primeval, also debuts later this year.
Sarandos didn’t give specific dates for any of the upcoming shows, only revealing they will be released “sometime in 2024.”
Netflix’s Production Schedules Were Massively Delayed
Audiences who pay for the streaming platform may have noticed that Netflix has reduced how many original productions they’ve released in 2024. THR’s report addressed this, stating that Netflix’s stacked late-2024 release schedule is the result of delays caused by thecoinciding WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023. The strikes completely halted production for all studios who hadn’t agreed to the two unions' terms, until a new deal was reached in November 2023.
