The Witcherwithout Henry Cavill is going to be a short-term affair asNetflixannounced the end of the fantasy saga. In a new teasing video, the streamer revealed that the fifth season has been renewed ahead of Season 4’s debut, but it will be the last time around for Geralt of Rivia.
Production on Season 4 ofThe Witcheris just beginning, but it seems that as rumors have suggested for some time, the end is coming for the White Wolf. The first three seasons ofThe Witcherstarred Henry Cavill as Geralt, and for a while, fans were more than happy with that. However, all good things suffer interference at one time or another, and much to the disappointment of Cavill and fans, the series began to stray from the source material a little too much. This was, if reports are to be believed, one of the biggest reasons that Cavill decided to depart the fantasy series at the end of its third season.
With the announcement of Cavill’s intentions to leave, Season 3 – and indeed the spin-off seriesBlood Origin– received a lot of bad reviews from fans who were furious at Netflix for seemingly driving Cavill out thanks to the direction the series was taking. That was just a taster of what was to come, though, as the reveal that Hemsworth would be entering the breach as replacement for the Superman actor didn’t fare much better, and even now,fans still have not accepted the changing of the guard.

Henry Cavill Gave Everything to The Witcher
However, even as his time came to a close, Cavill still gave his all to seeing out his time on the show in style. In August 2023, director Marc Jobst spoke toScreen Rantabout the commitment Cavill gave to the franchise right up to the end of filming. He said:
“Well, look, Henry has done three series, these are demanding shows to make, you know, they are huge. Henry does every single beat of his stunts, he won’t even allow a hand, if you’re doing a close up of a hand grabbing a sword, it has to be his hand.So, normally, what you do is you bring in a double, Henry will go off and shoot some other scene in which he’s in somewhere else, and you get somebody else into the hand, so that you don’t have to bother your number one. Henry won’t do that, and as a result of that, the results are extraordinary. You’re working with an incredible athlete, first and foremost, who works out hours before, and hours after, you’ve been shooting for 12 hours, and who cares deeply about the work that he does."
Following the departure of Cavill, there were several reports suggesting thatThe Witcherwould not be continuing on to Season 7, and that it was likely a fourth and fifth season would film back to back and end the story. It turns out that this does seem to have been the plan, but whether that would have happened even if Cavill had remained on board is something that we will never know.
