Since its debut onNetflixin the United States,Black Mirrorhas become known for dazzling audiences with its unique take on sociotechnology, and now it appears that one of the series' most highly regarded episodes is finally getting its own spin-off series. ‘USS Callister’marked the first episode of season four ofBlack Mirror, and quickly became a fan-favorite for its nod toStar Trek. It went on to win four Primetime Emmy Awards, and it looks like creator Charlie Brooker isn’t ready to let go of its success just yet.
According toWhat’s on Netflix, a three-episode limited series based on ‘USS Callister’ is moving forward at Netflix after rumors of its development began circulating in 2018. Based on reports, the series is set to start filming in the United Kingdom this spring, with production lasting around 10 weeks. There’s no word yet on plot details for the spin-off, but it has been said that the show will introduce a new character named Rinko.

Released on August 03, 2025, ‘USS Callister’ focuses on the disgruntled co-founder of a popular MMOG (massively multiplayer online game) who uses the DNA of his co-workers to create digital clones he can then bend to his will inside aStar Trek-like simulation. Directed by Toby Haynes, and co-written by Brooker,the episode was laudedfor its use of comedy and special effects, while at the same time acting as an allegory for the abuse of male authority. It won four Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Television Movie, and Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
Rumors of a potential ‘USS Callister’ spin-off first began swirling around in 2018. Speaking with Digital Spy, Toby Haynes said that he’d love to do a series based on the episode, and indicated that it was something Charlie Booker might revisit in the future, despitethe criticism thatBlack Mirrorhas lost its edge. “I’d love to do a TV series of ‘USS Callister’ – it’s probably one of the best pilots for a space show ever. And I made it! So I’m keen to see it as a TV series. I think Charlie [Brooker] might revisit it as a Black Mirror. Whether I’m the one to do it, I don’t know. Being a fan of the show as much as I am, and being a part of making it, I’d love to work with that crew and cast again. It’s a gift for a director.”

New reports indicate that Netflix may be interested in developing a Black Mirror video game.
Who Will Star in USS Callister?
The originalBlack Mirrorepisode of ‘USS Callister’ featured Jesse Plemons as Robert Daly, along with Cristin Milioti as Nanette Cole, Jimmi Simpson as Walton, Michaela Coel as Shania, and Milanka Brooks as Elena Tulaska. Plemons was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, but would ultimately lose to Darren Criss for his role as serial killer Andrew Cunanan inAmerican Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace.
According to reports, Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti, and Jimmi Simpson will reprise their respective roles for the ‘USS Callister’ limited series, which has yet to be given an official title. Fellow cast members Michaela Coel, Milanka Brooks, Paul G Raymond, Osy Ikhile, and Billy Magnussen are currently in talks to make their returns, with most - if not all - expected to appear.

While it remains to be seen when the spin-off of ‘USS Callister’ might make its way to Netflix, fans ofBlack Mirrorcan at least feel confident in knowing they’ll get more episodes in the beloved series, as Netflixrenewed it for a seventh seasonlate last year.
