“Stand By Your Man!” Those iconic lyrics sang by Tammy Wynette are apropos when it comes toGeorge & Tammycast membersJessica Chastainand Michael Shannon’s on and off-screen relationship. The series’ titular stars obviously have formed a friendship that transcends their performances in the confines of the SHOWTIME historical drama. But now Chastain wants to castMichael Shannonin a newMagic Mikesequel. But how did this all come about?

On July 11, 2025, Shannon celebrated his 49th birthday. Well, Chastain took toTwitterand wished herGeorge & Tammyco-star a wonderful day. The actress also uploaded a video of her and Shannon together, and in the post Chastain wrote:

general zod man of steel michael shannon

“Happy Birthday to this guy! It’s true, Mike is a magical being and total franchise man. Come on Channing Tatum, Steven Soderbergh… let’s make his birthday wish come true.”

Chastain wants Channing Tatum — who, of course, plays the lead role of Michael Lane in theMagic Miketrilogy — to hire Shannon for a follow-up ofMagic Mike’s Last Dance. She also mentions Steven Soderbergh who directs the first and third installments in the series. And whether the actress is being tongue-in-cheek or not, the tweet became a diverting plea by Chastain for Shannon to be included in a futureMagic Mikemovie.

Meet “Magic” Mike Shannon

Jessica Chastain’s happy birthday wishes to herGeorge & Tammyco-starMichael Shannonwas also a fun way for the actress to play agent for the man best known by Superman fans as having played General Zod inMan of SteelandThe Flash. ShouldBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicecount since Zod was a corpse?

Regardless, the video Chastain posted on Twitter was a plea for Shannon to take his superhero physique to another reality and appear inMagic Mike 4. In the footage Chastain tweeted, the actress points out Shannon’s muscles while they sit in front of a laptop. Shannon remains stoic as the slightest of grins forms on his face.

Chastain said in the video:

“Look at these muscles. He needs to do a Magic Mike movie. Mike Shannon told me that if I got him an offer for Magic Mike — one of the movies — he’d do it. I don’t know what would it be, like a rodeo? Or would he be like a Chicago police officer?”

Ever the good sport, Shannon suggested his own take on the character he’d like to play in aMagic Mikemovie. And in his pitch for a sequel, Shannon suggested that he could take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Avengers. “Like you be General Zod?” Chastain asked.

Chastain then smiled into the camera and said:

“That’s the movie I want to see.”

Unfortunately, forMagic Mikefans who’d like to see a crossover event with Superman’s arch-nemesis, General Zod, there’s little to no chance of that ever happening. However, Shannon appearing in a straight-up sequel could happen, but aMagic Mike 4isn’t currently in the workseither. But the major takeaway from Chastain’s birthday wishes for Shannon is that the duo shares a wicked sense of fun and humor on and off-screen.
