With theStar Trek: The Next Generationsequel seriesPicardturning out to be a hit for CBS All Access, Michael Dorn is still trying to return as Worf in a new show orRogue One-style movie of his own. Between his appearances onTNG, the show’s follow-up movies, and his run onDeep Space Nine, Dorn has played his character more than any other actor inStar Trekhistory. He’s voiced Worf onFamily Guy, but in live-action, Dorn hasn’t played the role sinceStar Trek: Nemesisin 2002.
Speaking about his time asWorfin an interview with Horror Geek Life, Dorn reveals that he’s still trying very hard to reprise the role for a new project. Years ago, Dorn had said that he wanted to bring back the character for a new show calledStar Trek: Captain Worf, though the project failed to materialize. Perhaps inspired by the success ofPicard, Dorn explains that he’s doing all he can to bring backStar Trek’s most beloved Klingon.
“Actually, I’ve been trying to get somebody in theStar Trekworld to do a Worf TV series, and if not a series then a movie likeRogue One, a kind of one-off, because I loveRogue One, I thought it was brilliant. It’s funny, people were going yeah, but everybody died, and I said yeah, I know, I loved that. I wrote a script for it many, many years ago, sometimes there is interest, then it goes away and I thought theStar Trek worldis missing out on a character that can definitely make them money.”
The Worf actor goes on to add:
“I thought this would be an easy sell, a really easy thing to do because the script is written, I’m here, I’m in great shape, not broken down and crotchety or anything. I’d love to direct and I’m kind of a Santa Claus when it comes to acting. I’m not interested in having Worf the focus of every scene, I just love the character and want to go to work. I mean in the end, it’s their call, I’m sure they have a reason, I just don’t know what it is.”
As far as appearing inPicardor anotherStar Trekshow,Michael Dornis clearly open to it, and he seems to be perplexed as to why he hasn’t yet gotten the call to return as Worf:
“The other strange thing is we have all of these Star Trek shows and Worf isn’t in any of them. It’s strange, it’s not like I’ve done anything to anyone, at least I hope I haven’t, but who knows?”
Time will tell if Dorn ever manages to reprise the role of Worf, but fans of the actor can soon check him out in another sci-fi story. He stars alongside Kayla Ewell (Vampire Diaries) and writer/director Derek Ting in the new movieAgent Revelation. The movie follows a rejected CIA analyst (Ting) who can communicate with aliens after an ancient “dust” turns him into a super soldier. It releases on VOD on Jan. 22.
