Landing on the streaming platform just over two weeks ago, the Colombian crime seriesMedusawill return for a second series, with the cast revealing the news on social media.
The sudden renewal comes just afterMedusadebuted on Netflix earlier this month on March 5, with the new X/Twitter post stating, “Oh no, Barbara almost doesn’t remember the gossip ‘Medusa’ will have season 2. Only on Netflix.” An original story set in Barranquilla, Colombia, Medusa offers audiencesall the thrills, drama, betrayal, and intriguethey could possibly want. And, considering that Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger, fans of the show will no doubt be relieved to hear that Medusa Season 2 is officially happening.

‘Medusa’ Season 1 Has Been a Huge Hit for Netflix
Medusahas been a surprise smash hit for Netflix, and currently stands at the #2 spot globally on the Netflix charts, just behindthe critically acclaimed crime drama,Adolescence. While there are not yet stacks of viewership data to pour over as the series has only been out for around two weeks,MedusaSeason 1 ranked “#1 in both weeks it’s qualified, pulling in 96.80 million hours watched with a 10% drop from week 1 to week 2. That number equates to 12.90 million views,” according to What’s on Netflix. Results which make it clear why a renewal decision has been made so quickly.
While the likes ofAdolescencehave found both critical and viewership success, Medusa has found the viewers in spite of scathing reviews from critics. Ty’Kira Smalls of Common Sense Media said of the show, “This series slithers its way through a melodramatic, mundane mystery.Medusastruggles with its pacing and drags behind a convoluted plot. Viewers looking for a spicy drama thriller might get their fix elsewhere.” While Joel Keller of Decider found everything incredibly ridiculous, saying, “Pretty much everything about Medusa is patently ridiculous, so your enjoyment of this series will depend on how much you tolerate this ridiculousness.” But, hey, sometimes a mystery thriller with a ridiculous plot and cheesy acting can really hit the spot. However, it does make one wonder how Netflix can allow acclaimed shows with passionate fambases to wither and die while giving heavily criticized shows likeMedusaanother shot.
