ABlossomreboot has been onMayim Bialik’s mind for quite some time. In 2021, Bialik said that she and series creator Don Reo wereinterested in doing a limited rebootbut needed help getting the network onboard. But things have progressed, and Bialik providedVarietywith an update on a possible Blossom reboot, telling the publication that the original cast is open to returning and that a pilot episode script is complete.
“The show was supposed to be ‘Catcher in the Rye’ about a girl, which was unusual,” Bialik said. “And we’d like to do a reboot that’s unusual. We’d like to do a single cam.” She added: “All of the cast is on board.”

Bialik portrayed Blossom Russo during the show’s 5 seasons run in the 1990s. An Italian American teenager, Blossom navigated her life in a house full of men: her musician father Nick (Ted Wass), and brothers Joey (Joey Lawrence) and Anthony (Michael Stoyanov). Jenna von Oy also starred in the series as Blossom’s fast-talking bestie Six LeMeure. David Lascher, Barnard Hughes, and Finola Hughes also appeared in recurring roles throughout the series' run, which concluded in 1995.
This conversation with Variety follows a Bryant University Event on April 17, where Reo and Bialik were guest speakers. Following the event, Bialik shared an Instagram post teasing the reboot, writing: “We had a blast talking about our respective crafts, our 35 year friendship, and answering questions about a Blossom reboot! For those of you who weren’t there, we are working on it. I mean, don’t you wanna know what Blossom Russo’s been up to?”

What’s Holding Blossom Up?
As exciting as the possibility of a reboot sounds for fans of the original series, some issues must still be dealt with. Bialik’s schedule isn’t exactly light, as she currently stars inCall Me Kat, hostsCelebrity Jeopardy!and shares hosting responsibilities with Ken Jennings forJeopardy!
“My schedule has not been even open enough to think about it but Don and I are finally ready to have more of a meaningful plan around it. And people ask me all the time about it. You know, we were an unusual show about a girl at that time. There were no network shows about girls. Everyone was like, ‘No one will watch that.’ And here we are,” Bialik told Variety.
Touchstone Television producedBlossom, and the series is now available on Hulu; both have ties to Disney. According to Bialik, this makes the reboot complicated: “It’s a set of conversations with Disney because there’s a lot of red tape and there’s a lot of complexity. It’s complicated,” she said.
Following Blossom, Bialik appeared in series includingThe Big Bang Theory, Fat Actress,The Secret Life of the American Teenager, andCurb Your Enthusiasm. Since 2021, she has portrayed the titular character inCall Me Kat, who runs a cat cafe in Louisville. She made her directorial debut with the 2022 drama filmAs They Made Us, which she also penned and produced.
