Every sinceTransformers: Age of Extinctiondebuted in 2014 with a new leading man inMark Wahlberg, many have theorized and speculated that the actor will eventually return inTransformers 5. Wahlberg himself has even hinted that this is true. Now, in a new interview withCinePop, the man otherwise known asCade Yeagerhas confirmed that he will return to fight alongside the Autobots in this somewhat awaited sequel.
Taking over forShia LaBeouf, who played the leading man in the first threeTransformersmovies, Mark Wahlberg introduced inventor and scientist Cade Yeager inTransformers: Age of Extinction. He is a small town Texas mechanic who discoversOptimus Primein an old movie theater marked for renovations. Together, theAutobotsleader, Cade and his young daughter Tessa, played byNicola Peltz, set off on an adventure to save the planet from the Decepticons. The fourth installment in this Paramount franchise was another blockbuster hit, and pulled in $1.1 billion at the global box office. All four films have earned a combined total gross of $3.7 billion.
At the end ofTransformers: Age of Extinction, we saw Optimus Prime set off for space in search of theQuintessons, those responsible for the creation of the Transformers. Cade, meanwhile, was left on earth to look after the surviving Autobots and the Dinobots. We don’t have any confirmed story details yet, but it is believed that the film will take place on both earth and in space, as Prime hunts down the Quintessons. It is rumored that this will be Optimus Prime’s final movie, withUltra Magnustaking over the leadership role on Earth.
Ultra Magnus is the chief lieutenant of Optimus Prime, and will apparently head up a new Autobot army that includes Red Alert and Override. The original Red Alert is a paranoid Autobot “Fire Chief” who can transform into a Lamborghini. He’s gone through several incarnations over the years, and has taken the form of a Fire Truck and a doctor. In the 2009 animated series, Red Alert was actually portrayed as a female surgeon. We’re not sure what form he’ll take here. Override is an Autobot Triggerbot who transforms into a blue and red 1980s Suzuki touring motorcycle. These are the only two new Autobots who have been teased thus far for the sequel.
The other three new characters said to be introduced in Transformers 5 are all Decepticons. Cyclonus was created by Unicron and is loyal to Galvatron and the Decepticon cause. The pointy-eared robot turns into a spaceship and is sometimes portrayed as a helicopter. He actually made his live-action debut inTransformers: Age of Extinction, but it’s speculated that this could be a different version of the character. Scourge is Galvatron’s implacable tracker and leader of his own cadré of huntsmen, the deadly Sweeps. It isn’t mentioned whether or not we’ll get to see the Sweeps, but we assume so. Why else introduce the character? The bearded Decepticon is often scene antagonizing Cyclonus in the original Marvel comic books, so it makes sense to have both of them together. Scourge is known for his ability to transform into a bathtub shaped spaceship. The final robot in disguise is Decepticon Blitzwing. He is a Decepticon Triple Changer and often referred to as a psycho. He can transform into a tank.
Michael Bayis expected to return as the director of Transformers 5, but that has not been confirmed. Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan are writing the script after a long session in the Transformers' writers room led byAkiva Goldsman.
