It’s the fifth anniversary of Carrie Fisher’s death, and the belovedStar Warsstar is getting a lot of love from her fans along with those who knew her best. Given her involvement in theStar Warsfranchise, many fans and fellow stars from the series are honoring Fisher for the occasion. Leading the way isMark Hamill, who posted a screenshot from theStar Warstribute to Fisher that says, “In Loving Memory of our Princess Carrie Fisher.”
“People always ask me what stage of grief I’m in. And my answer is never simple. I’m in a different stage of grief in each moment of every day,” writes Fisher’s daughterBillie Lourdin a tribute post no Instagram. “My grief is a multi course meal with many complicated ingredients. An amuse bouche of bargaining followed by an anger appetizer with a side of depression, acceptance for the entree and of course a little denial for dessert. And that’s how grief should be - all things all at once - actually there is no ‘should’ in grief - grief just is whatever it is for you and that is how it ‘should be.'”
“Remembering today, I can’t believe 5 years ago we lost our Dear Carrie Fisher,” Fisher fan Andrew Stock adds on Twitter. “A fine Princess to us all. Rest in Peace Carrie Fisher you will be with us always.”
Writer Jay Stobie tweeted, “I never had the pleasure of meetingCarrie Fisher, but the bravery she demonstrated through her mental health advocacy inspired me to share my OCD experiences with others. It’s been 5 years since she left us, but her legacy of love and honesty lives on. Thank you, Carrie.”
And echoing so many others, another tweet reads: “5 years ago today the world lost one of the most talented human beings, carrie fisher. today the stars are shining so brightly for her. we miss you so much, carrie. thank you for everything, you’re so appreciated.”
Carrie Fisher, a legend of the screen, may be best known her for role as Princess Leia in theStar Warsfranchise. She has also appeared in films likeThe Blues Brothers,The ‘Burbs,Soapdish, andThe Women, also earning Emmy nominations for her roles in the comedy shows30 RockandCatastrophe. Fisher posthumously appeared in 2019’sStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerthrough unused footage filmed forStar Wars: The Force Awakens.
On Jun 05, 2025, Fisher suffered cardiac arrest while on a flight and was rushed to the hospital upon landing. After four days in intensive care,Fisher died at the age of 60. The day after her death, Fisher’s mother, Debbie Reynolds, suffered a stroke while grieving the sudden loss of her daughter. Reynolds died later that afternoon, and the two had a joint memorial service.
Fisher is no longer with us, but her memory lives on. From the amount of love she’s still getting from so many who still can’t believe she’s gone five years later, Fisher’s star continues to shine just as brightly as ever. Rest in peace, Princess.
