In addition, two first-look photos have been released, teasing a movie that will play off of some of the audience’s worst fears. We were recently treated to the first poster for Peele’s highly anticipated follow up toGet Outand he let us know that the trailer drops on Christmas day, which is just a few short days away.
In a new interview,Jordan Peeleand the cast reveal some information aboutUs, which is shrouded in mystery. Peele has a lot to live up to after the breakout success ofGet Out, his directorial debut and the movie that earned him an Academy Award. While not going into too much detail, the director spoke about what he wanted to accomplish withUs. He had this to say.
“For my second feature, I wanted to create a monster mythology. I wanted to do something that was more firmly in the horror genre but still held on to my love of movies that are twisted but fun.”
The brief information that we have aboutUscenters on main characters Adelaide and Gabe Wilson, played byLupita Nyong’oand Winston Duke, when they take their two children to Adelaide’sold childhood beach housein Northern California for summer vacation. After a while, Adelaide starts to grow paranoid, believing that something terrible is going to happen to her family. Some of her past trauma starts to creep in as the paranoia worsens. After coming home from the beach, the Wilsons see four people in red standing at the end of the driveway, which is detailed in one of ominous first-look images. Jordan Peele also revealed that the monsters in the movie are called the Tethered.
Lupita Nyong’o says that she was looking forward to working with Jordan Peele onUsbecause she lovedGet Outso much. While she kept pretty quiet about the plot of the movie, she did mention what movies that Peele had her watch to prepare for her role. The movies includeDead Again,The Shining,The Babadook,It Follows,A Tale of Two Sisters,The Birds,Funny Games,Martyrs,Let the Right One In, andThe Sixth Sense. Nyong’o also talked about what audiences can expect when they seeUsfor the first time. She explains.
“It turns into thisrelentless nightmarethat taps into (Adelaide’s) deepest fears and ours as well - the idea that we might be our own worst enemies.”
Usreunites Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke fromBlack Pantherand Jordan Peele wasvery happy with their on set chemistry. Duke admits that he did not want to come off like a warrior in the horror movie, noting that his character is like Homer Simpson - a lovable dad, but flawed. As we continue to get teased about whatUsis really about, things are starting to become more intriguing.
