There’s a lot of pressure riding onLiam Hemsworthwhen he dons Geralt of Rivia’s famous white locks in Season 4 ofThe Witcher. The actor is taking over from Henry Cavill, who departed from the fantasy series for a still undisclosed reason. While Hemsworth will be a fresh face on The Continent, he’s appearing alongside actors who have already gained valuable magical and monster fighting experience, andthe actor compared his anxiety about wielding the silver sword to one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises of all-time.

Speaking toCollider, Liam Hemsworth explained his trepidation about joiningThe Witcherfor its fourth season. Henry Cavill has become synonymous with the role on screen, thanks in part to his great performance, as well as his overwhelming love of the source material and past adaptations. Hemsworth compared taking over the role to joining a new high school mid-year, and explained thatit’s a feeling that very few actors go through, except the stars ofDoctor Who.Hemsworth said:

Geralt and Essi Daven in The Witcher Sirens of the Deep

“This was a really unique situation that I don’t think many actors have ever dealt with, apart from maybe the people who have played Doctor Who characters over the years, because predominantly the rest of the cast has stayed the same, but the lead actor has changed. For me, it felt like coming in and starting high school when everyone else is already friends and has relationships with each other and has been there since the beginning. At times, you kind of feel like an outsider, and it’s nothing like any of the cast or crew has treated me in that way. Everyone has been nothing but welcoming and extremely aware of what the situation is.”

While it is hard to find any actor who shares the same love forThe Witchergames and books as Henry Cavill, Netflix appears to be in safe hands asLiam Hemsworth is a big fanofThe Witcher III: Wild Hunt— the universally adored video game adaptation. When he got the call to take over from Cavill, Hemsworth said he dived back in to the world ofThe Witcher, reading the books and catching up on the Netflix adaptation. The actor said:

“As a fan of the video game — I’d played the video game 10 years ago or something and was a massive fan of the video game — I said, ‘Let me watch the TV show and let me have a look at the books and dig into it,’ and the idea of playing that character was really exciting.”

The Witcher Fans Should Give Liam Hemsworth a Chance

There are a lot of appropriate and justified criticisms that fans have leveled at Netflix’sThe Witcheradaptation. When the series was announced and Henry Cavill was cast, fans were hoping for a mostly faithful adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s award-winning novels. Season 1 embraced the short-story format, using each episode to tell separate, mostly self-contained adventures across several decades. However,Season 2 saw fans turn on the series hard, asthe new season featured countless changesto the original novels, and killed off some fan favorite characters. Season 3 just dug the hole deeper, adding in even more original stories which deviated heavily from where fans were hoping the series would go.

The Witcher saga continues on Netflix.

Season 4 has a major uphill battle in order to win back audiences. While fans are justified in their critiques of Seasons 2 & 3,writing off Season 4 just because a new actor is taking over as Geralt of Rivia is ridiculous.Liam Hemsworth is a solid actor, who seemingly knows the character far more than fans initially assumed. Additionally, Season 4 introduces one of the best characters in the entire series, Regis (played by none otherthan Laurence Fishburne). So, let’s giveThe WitcherSeason 4 a chance when it lands on the streaming platform sometime in late 2025.
