Every once in a while, a surprising Hollywood feud emerges. AndLarry DavidversusElmois surely vying for the top of that particular list. TheCurb Your Enthusiasmstar took it upon himself to show how much he is infuriated by the belovedSesame Streetpuppet, attacking Elmo while appearing on the Today show. “Someone had to do it,” he said following the throttling, which you can check out below. Be warned, the footage is not for the faint of heart.
David took out his frustrations on the beloved Elmo in response to the puppet’s wholesome nature, which the curmudgeonly comedian and writer no doubt finds far too sickly sweet. Today show hosts Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin were shocked at the vicious attack, which saw David grab Elmo’s face and choke him rather vigorously.

Guthrie shouted, “Oh my god!” following David’s violent outburst, with all three hosts taken aback. “Larry, you’ve gone too far this time!” added Guthrie.
Of course, Elmo being the pure soul that he is, simply wanted to find out what caused David to do what he did, saying, “Let’s get back on the couch and talk about how you’re feeling.” But David was having none of it, firing back “Somebody had to do it!”

When taking to the couch to discussthe final season ofCurb Your Enthusiasm, David had clearly reconsidered his actions, and took the time to apologize to Elmo. “Elmo, I just want to apologize,” David said while stifling a laugh. “I’m really sorry.”
Of course, Elmo humbly accepted the apology, saying, “Thank you, Larry. Elmo accepts your apology.”

However, his apology may not have been quite as sincere as first thought, as during an appearance onLate Night, David explained his actions again, and admitted he would “do it again.” After being asked about the incident by Meyers, David said:
“Elmo was, he was going on about mental health and I had to listen to every word. And I was going, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, I don’t think I can take another second of this!’ And so I got off my chair and I approached him and I throttled him! I couldn’t take it! And you know what? I would do it again!”
