A fourth installment inThe Matrixfranchise,The Matrix Resurrections, seemingly came out of nowhere, and while the fourth outing in the series was unexpected (and to some unnecessary), according toKeanu Reevesthere may be even more to come. In an interview withFandom, the actor expressed his willingness to bring Neo back again should director Lana Wachowski want him to.
“That’s a Lana Wachowski question. I mean, if she wanted to do another story and wanted to include me I would be honoured and grateful, and I’d like to see what happens to Trinity and Neo, and the world.”
Reeves clearly has a lot of faith in the filmmaker, as well as a genuine interest in the future of the characters and the franchise as a whole. His co-starCarrie-Anne Moss, who reprises the role of Trinity inThe Matrix Resurrections, echoed Reeves’ sentiments over another follow-up saying, “Totally, of course … it would be amazing.”
New recruitPriyanka Chopra Jonasis also on board should Lana Wachowski wish to continue playing in the world ofThe Matrix. The actress revealed what she would like to see in any future adventure, as well as confirming the character she is playing inThe Matrix Resurrections. “I would love to see where Sati’s character would go and [find out] would she be able to find her greater purpose?” she said. “Which is peace for all humanity, which she has done [before] and stood for – humanity and machines [that is].”
One cast member who is a little more a cautious overThe Matrix 5however is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II,who joins the sci-fi action series as a mysteriously younger version of Morpheus. “If I’m honest, I think that before I even get to those conversations, I just want this film to come out and to see how this film resonates with audiences,” the actor said, rather sensibly. “In terms of where you go next, I think that would depend a lot on how it’s received by the world, and how it’s digested, and then to say, based on that, is there a need to continue on or did the film do what it was intended to do?”
Warner Bros. are also eager to continue the story beyondThe Matrix Resurrections, with Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff recently stating that the upcoming outing was “originally conceived to reboot the series on the big screen,” and that “anytime Lana [Wachowski] wants to make a movie, we’re all in.”
