The months leading up toSeason 6ofGame of Throneshave been filled with rumors and conjecture, since HBO has refused to confirm any plot details or new characters for the upcoming episodes. We even reported last week that HBO will not be sending outSeason 6 screenersto press members, most likely since the first four episodes ofSeason 5were leaked early, just one day before the premiere. One of the fans' biggest burning questions revolves around the fate ofKit Harington’s Jon Snow, who was brutally killed by his own Night’s Watch soldiers in theSeason 5finale. During a new interview withTime Out, the actor did confirm he shot a handful of scenes forSeason 6, but maintains that Jon Snow is in fact dead.
“Look, I’m not in the show any more. I’m definitely not in the new series. I filmed some scenes of me being dead - [jokily] it’s some of my best work. I don’t have a clue. I know how long I’m a corpse for, but I can’t tell you that!”
While the actor has constantly maintained thatJon Snowis dead, he teased in September that he’s still under contract with the series, which confirmed a report from October 2014 that all of the major stars had renewed their contracts throughSeason 7. The actor was also spotted arriving at the Belfast airport in July, and he was spotted on the Ireland set shortly thereafter. We don’t know anything about the scenes he shot while on the Ireland set, or when exactly these scenes take place during the season.
Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the show, teased that there’s a “twist” involving Jon Snow’s character. Many have speculated that Melissandre (Carice van Houten) may use her supernatural powers to bring both Jon Snow and her “partner"Stannis Baratheon(Stephen Dillane) back to life after, they were both killed inMother’s Mercy. We also know thatGeorge R.R. Martin’s new book The Winds of Winter won’t be published until sometime afterSeason 6debuts on Sunday, April 24. Neither the author nor his publisher have given an exact publication date at this time.
Last month, the network released thefirst trailer, which didn’t feature any actual footage from the show but teased the demise of several main characters, whose severed heads were shown in the Hall of Faces at the House of Black and White. With just under two months left until the premiere, it remains to be seen how much footage the network will actually reveal before the show returns on April 24, but we’ll have to wait and see. Do you think Jon Snow is actually dead inGame of Thrones? Or do you think we’ll see him come back to life?
