It seems that a lot of Hollywood actors have, at some point in their career, toyed with the idea of being in a Marvel movie, andJon Hammis no exception. The 53-year-old star ofMad Menevenwent so far as to pitch himself for a rolein theMCU, revealing that his idea revolved around a specific comic book storyline that he was eager to be involved in. Hamm first rose to prominence thanks to his roleas Don Draper in the hit AMC seriesMad Men, which ran from 2007 to 2015, and has since enjoyed a successful career in Hollywoodin both film and television.
Hamm recently sat down withThe Hollywood Reporterfor an in depth profile, and the subject of superhero movies came up. This allowed Hamm to confirm that he hadturned down the role of Green Lanternin the 2011 DC film, a part that eventually went to Ryan Reynolds. It was then that the Fargo actor mentionedthat he’d pitched himself for parts in the MCU, but so far to no avail.

“I’vepitched myself for a couple parts of the Marvel universe, I don’t want to say what exactly, but it was a part of a comic book that I really liked. I was like, ‘Are you going to do this story?’ And they were like, ‘Yeah, we’re actually thinking of that.’ I go, ‘Good. I should be the guy.’ So maybe it’ll work out.”

Jon Hamm is interested in joining the MCU, playing villainous characters like Mr. Sinister or Doctor Doom.
Hamm would mention that despite turning down superhero roles in the past,he’s still in contact with both Marvel and DC, so he is hopeful that at some point he’ll be able to land a role that is beneficial to everyone involved.

“It’s not like they were saying, ‘We want you to be Iron Man.’But there were a lot of conversations, and I’m still in those.I talk to the guys that run Marvel and DC. And I’m a comic book nerd. So, we’ll see. Even that part of the industry is changing.”

Goldblum, of course, appeared in the MCU as the Grandmaster inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2andThor: Ragnarök, and for Hamm, he says of the Apartments.com spokesperson,“how awesome to be able to do all the things he’s done.”

“I look at a guy like Jeff Goldblum’s career — and I know Jeff a bit, we used to have the same therapist — and I’m just like, ‘God, how awesometo be able to do all the things he’s done.’ He had his leading man phase,and he does Marvel and he’ll just roll through and steal the scene, and then he’s doing commercials and he’s funny as sh*t.I see him out and he’s happy.”
“So, consciously or not, I’m modeling my life to be that: varied and happy and fulfilled.”
