However, The Stath is about to be kicked off his thrown by a pencil-pushing accountant…who also has an affinity for fist fights and guns. To be fair, Statham would no doubt be proud.

A Working Manis currently the highest-grossing movie in the action genre (excluding superhero flicks), having grossed a solid $98 million worldwide against its $40 million budget. However, now that the action thriller has been released on VOD and isavailable to stream on Prime Videoin certain territories, not many more dollar bills are expected to enter the register.

So, make way forBen Affleck’s autistic accountant and assassin in the long-awaited sequel,The Accountant 2, which is expected to catch up with and overtake Statham’s working man. The follow-up has now grossed just over $93 million at the box office and, having been released more recently, has plenty of time for the dollars to keep rolling in with no streaming release in sight (yet).

Jason Statham & Ben Affleck Be Aware…Tom Cruise Is Coming

While the idea of Ben Affleck being the action movie king of 2025 over Jason Statham seems…bewildering, it’s largely thanks to both the actor’s commitment to the role of Christian Wolff, a.k.a The Accountant, his on-screen chemistry with co-star Jon Bernthal, andaudiences' love for this taleof a number-cruncher killer. So, it should come as little surprise that afurther sequel is now in the works.

Directed once again by Gavin O’Connor and written by Bill Dubuque,The Accountant 2sees Affleck return as Christian Wolffalongside Bernthal as his estranged brother, and fellow killer, Brax. The rest of the cast includes J. K. Simmons, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and Daniella Pineda.The Accountant 2has been met with solid reviews from both audiences and critics alike, landing scores of 76% and 92%, respectively, and you can check out the official synopsis for the action thriller follow-up below.

The action outing has proven divisive, landing scores of 49% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a “verified hot” score of 87% from audiences on the Popcornmeter.

While Statham and Affleck are battling it out for the #1 spot at the action box office, they want to check over their shoulders,as Tom Cruise is approaching at top speedwith his franchise finale,Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. No doubt the king of Hollywood has his eyes on the prize.
