For around five years now, some horror fans have believed thatKevin McCallisterfromHome Alonegrew up to be John Kramer fromSaw. The theory has picked up steam over the years with more evidence mounting that Kevin is really John, even though it has never been officially proven and for the fact that it’s all rather silly. However, it is a fun thing to think about, and there are some pretty funny similarities, aka coincidences, between the Christmas and horror classics.
In a new interview,Aquamandirector James Wan was asked about theHome AloneandSawfan theory. Wan made his directorial debut with 2004’sSaw, which went on to spawn many sequels and a big following over the years. But, does it really have any connections to theHome Aloneuniverse? Wan had this to say.
“It’s amazing. I should’ve known all along thatMacaulay Culkinwould grow up to be John Kramer. I think it’s awesome. I’m very flattered that people take the time to have fun with all these fan theories. I think that’s why I make these movies. I want the fans out there to have fun with them.”
Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister set his booby traps and they are a bit different from John Kramer’s devices inSaw. For one thing, McCallister is trying to protect his family’s house from the Wet Bandits, while Kramer is creating torture devices, placing people in devious games that usually end up with gruesome results. The Wet Bandits would had to have left a pretty big impact on Kevin McCallister for him to turn into a murderer, though it’s a pretty fun theory to think about.
James Wanis currently riding high on thesuccess of Aquaman, which is now the biggest DCEU movie in the franchise’s history. As of this writing, the superhero movie is currently at $942.9 million globally and is well on its way to crossing the $1 billion mark in the next few days. Wan and actor Jason Momoa took the time to try and make the Arthur Curry character cool again, separating him from the comic books and old cartoons that made him into a bit of a joke.
Aquamanhas been praised for its beauty and amazing CGI, which is a far cry from what James Wan is usually creating. Instead of dark and twisted, Wan created an underwater utopia with bright colors and bits of humor and intense action. That’s a lot different from thinking up torture devices for theSawfranchise over the years. Macaulay Culkin has been in the public eye a lot lately, so maybe he and Wan can connect to make aHome AloneandSawmashup for fun. People would certainly like to see that.
