James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has shared a behind-the-scenes photo ofMilly Alcockpreparing for her DCU role as Kara Zor-El, most famously known as Supergirl, on the set ofSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He posted the new-look teaser on Instagram (as seen below) in a post celebrating the legendary comic book character, who made her debut appearance 66 years ago in Action Comics #252, and “all her various incarnations,” including the upcoming version played by Alcock, who, according to him, has an “indomitable” spirit.

“Today we celebrate Supergirl and all her various incarnations. Can’t wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable Milly Alcock, in June 2026,” he wrote in the caption of his Instagram post. However, those hoping for a peek of theSupergirlstar in her superhero suit will have to wait a little longer, as the photo taken by Parisa Taghizadeh places the actress front and center, holding a copy of theSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowcomic book by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely, which Ana Nogueira adapted for the cosmic DCU film.

Everything We Know About ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ may not come until 2026, but details about James Gunn’s next chapter in Gods and Monsters have emerged.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowis currently in production, with Alcock bringing the Kryptonian heroine to the big screen as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The movie, directed by Craig Gillespie, is set to follow Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, on an intergalactic adventure that will see her visiting various space-bound locations (per recent set photos) with Krypto the Superdog. At some point along the way, she will meet a character named Ruthye and wind up on a murderous quest for revenge. The plot synopsis for the comic reads:

“Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.”

Milly Alcock Will Make Her DCU Debut in ‘Superman’

Gunn and his fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran are ushering in an exciting new era for DC films, TV, and animation with a packed new slate, launched byCreature Commandos, which premiered on Max in December. The second entry (and first movie),Superman,is set to arrive in theaters on July 09, 2025, with David Corenswet in the titular role. Alcock is expected tomake her DCU debut inSupermanbefore she leads her own superhero movie, which is scheduled to be released just under a year later on June 17, 2025.

While Alcock is fronting her solo film next year, she certainly won’t be flying solo in the cast. Eve Ridley will star as Ruthye Mary Knolle alongside Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Supergirl’s father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as her mother Alura In-Ze. In addition, formerAquamanstar Jason Momoa is set to play the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo, whose costume is “pretty dead on” to the iconic outfit the character wears in the pages of various DC Comics (according to the actor himself).
