According to a recent episode ofDeadline’s Hero Nation,Gunn said he was working on something new. “We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe,” Gunn explained, “I can’t quite say.” Although a vague message in general, it does seem to say that HBO is thrilled with howPeacemakerhas been received and is open to the idea of a new series.
This news comes as no surprise asPeacemakeris performing very well and being streamed by so many people. When asked about a potential second season of the hit show, Gunn had this to say: “There’s a really good chance of that. We’re the biggest show in the world right now,” Gunn said, speaking from the set ofGuardians of the Galaxy 3,which is filmingin Atlanta.
Which Character Could Be the Focus of a New Series?
Gunn approached HBO Max with the idea for another series built around one of the characters in Suicide Squad. The new and potential project is in the very early stages, and nothing has been greenlit. However, HBO Max is very excited about what James Gunn has brought to the table based on what he has done already and his passion for these projects and characters.
With so many unique characters that appeared in the film, it’s hard to say which one the series could be about. Knowing how James Gunn has handled these characters in the past, it could be any of them. “I can’t say anything. It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre asPeacemaker, it won’t be as much a comedy asPeacemaker,but it will be in the same universe,” Gunn said.
