Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is just around the corner. With the premiere so close, fans have been wondering how the new story will connect to the larger MCU arc running right now, which is Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror story. Since Marvel Studios tends to interconnect every movie and TV show, it seems obvious that the reportedly last installment of the James Gunn franchise should include at least some reference to the main plot of Phase 5, but the audience might get a surprise.
WhileAnt-Man and the Wasp Quantumaniaserved both as an official introduction for Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang, who will surely become part of the young Avengers in the future, and an official presentation of Majors’ newest villain,Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3could take a completely different path.

While answering fans' questions on hisInstagram, Gunn revealed that connections between his movie and Kang might not be as present as fans expect:
“Vol 3 is about ending the story of these Guardians, not about setting up anything else. I don’t even know what’s going on with the other Marvel movies.”
This movie might also mean the definitive goodbye of Gunn from Marvel since he’s now the head of DC Studios and in charge of planning every project related to the competition, whether it is on streaming, theaters, TV, and even video games. So his plate will be quite full for the next couple of years.
