This List of Directors Hints at What’s to Come In the James Bond Reboot
While many of these names, including Denis Villeneuve andEdward Berger, have been rumoredfor the role of director for the new James Bond, and whose filmmaking sensibilities would suggest a continuation of the more “gritty and grounded” take on 007 as seen during the Craig era, the likes of Edgar Wright and Paul King suggesting more of a shift back to the somewhat more lighthearted adventures of old. It’s certainly easy to imagine a007 adventure filled with gadgets, quips, and wildly kinetic action sequences helmed by Edgar Wright.
It’s also interesting that, rather than his Oscar-winning blockbuster filmmaking brother, Amazon is potentially looking to Jonathan Nolan to steer the James Bond franchise going forward. Could this be his chance to do somethinghis brother wanted to but could never quite achieve? Time will tell.

It’s also worth noting that another long-rumored and prominent name is missing from this list: Alfonso Cuarón. TheGravityandChildren of Mendirector seemingly confirmed back in April that he was in contention totake the helm of the action franchise, saying, “There is indeed this project under discussion, and I have a desire — if it happens — to revisit this story in my own way.” However, with his name notably absent, it’s possible that whatever discussions were happening have now fallen through.
As for who might take the lead on-screen as the new James Bond, several major names continue to top that particular list,including28 Years Laterstar Aaron Taylor-Johnson, former Man of Steel Henry Cavill,The Gentlemen’sTheo James, andSlow Horsesstar Jack Lowden.
