As a rabid horror fan, I have to say that horror has been (no pun intended) killing it on TV this past year. And the future looks just as bright. In fact, one of the top horror shows heading our way in 2020 is J.J. Abrams andGet OutandUSwriter-director Jordan Peele’s adaptation ofLovecraft Countrystarring Jonathan Majors, Michael K. Williams, Abbey Lee, and Courtney B. Vance. The new horror series will be hitting HBO sometime in the near future, and today we have your first look at the show via a montage video HBO just slapped up over on YouTube.

The quick glimpses of thisJ.J. Abramsand Jordan Peele horror series are fleeting as hell, but they do give us our first shot of the main cast together and a hint of the tone and action set to be contained within the must-see series. And if the fleeting glimpse ofLovecraft Countrywasn’t quite enough to get you to give the video a look-see, let me just point out that it also contains some quick new footage fromArrested Developmentstar Jason Bateman’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novelThe OutsiderstarringRogue One: A Star Wars StoryandReady Player Oneactor Ben Mendelsohn. So that’s another good reason to give it a peek.

For those of you that might not know,Lovecraft Countryis based on thedark fantasy horror novelby Matt Ruff, which melds historical fiction, pulp noir, and Lovecraftian horror and fantasy. More specifically, it begins in Chicago in 1954 when 22-year-old Army veteran Atticus Turner embarks on a road trip to New England to find his missing father. He’s joined on his journey by his childhood friend Letitia and his Uncle George. On their journey, they encounter both mundane terrors of white America and malevolent spirits that seem straight out of the weird world of H.P. Lovecraft.

Its main cast includes Jonathan Majors as Atticus Black,Jurnee Smollett-Bellas Letitia “Leti” Dandridge, and Courtney B. Vance as George Black. Wunmi Mosaku joins them as Ruby Dandridge along with Aunjanue Ellis as Hippolyta Black, Michael K. Williams as Montrose Freeman, Abbey Lee as Christina Braithwhite, and Tony Goldwyn as Samuel Braithwhite. Recurring cast members include Jamie Harris, Jamie Chung, Jordan Patrick Smith, Jamie Neumann, Erica Tazel, and Mac Brandt. The series is produced by Monkeypaw Productions, Bad Robot Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.Dead SetandWhite Boy Rickdirector Yann Demange will helm and executive produce the pilot episode.

Again, I don’t know about you but this show has got to be one of the top - if not THE top horror series that I’m looking forward to checking out in 2020. Now let’s just hopeHBOunleashes, you know, an actual trailer for the series sooner rather than later. An official release date would be much appreciated as well. Until then, this first look at J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele’s adaptation ofLovecraft Countrycomes to us from a montage video HBO just slapped up over on YouTube.
