Is theFast & Furiousfranchise running out of gas? That remains to be seen. The upcomingFast X: Part II/ Fast 11is rumored to be the final chapter in the successful film series that began early in the century. It appears every possible angle (including space) has been explored, but such was the assumption beforeFast Fivecame out. There could still be more crazy routes, including a crossover withMad Max(anything is possible) or a cameo from Jeremy Clarkson. For now, we have to settle for what we have.

An argument can be made for theFast & Furiousfranchise being more anti-car than pro-car. Gearheads will frown at just how many cars get destroyed in these movies. The Lykan Hypersport (valued at $3.5 million) didn’t deserve such harsh punishment in Abu Dhabi, nor did the Volvo V06 in Hobbs and Shaw’s separate adventure. Hundreds of other good cars have been destroyed, anda British insurance firmopted to calculate just how much damage had been done on screen in each movie. Well, the numbers are shocking.

11’The Fast and the Furious' (2001)

The Fast & the Furiousintroduces us to Dominic “Dom” Toretto (Vin Diesel), a living legend in street car racing who happens to be the charming leader of a truck-looting gang. Aware of his activities, the LAPD tasks Officer Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) with going undercover in Dom’s crew. However, Brian falls for Dom’s sister, causing his allegiances to shift.

Less Danger

The Fast and the Furious

Rob Cohen’s first big-budget feature film was a box-office smash andremains a shining example of how to make a great race movie, with young archetypal characters, endless splashes of color, confident widescreen angles, and dazzling action choreography. Here, the crash numbers are low because the stakes are low.All that Dom and his crew do is race and rob trucks. Not much damage can come from that.

10'2 Fast 2 Furious' (2003)

Vin Dieselturned down a big money offerto return for the sequel, so the studio got Tyrese Gibson and paired him with Paul Walker for2 Fast 2 Furious. We were thus treated to a plot involving ex-LAPD officer Brian O’Conner and his ex-con friend Roman Pearce (Tyrese) transporting a shipment of “dirty money” for a shady Miami-based businessman while secretly working undercover to bring him down.

Rumble in Florida

2 Fast 2 Furious

This outstanding thriller from director John Singleton isa reverent, earnest homage to buddy-cop movies, with some added automobile adrenaline thrown in for good measure.Extremely forceful and achingly furious as the title suggests, this film is the kind to thrill people of all ages. The iconic car jump from a dock to a yacht is justly famous, and Tyrese is the funniest he has ever been.

The damage is understandably higher here because the villain gives various drivers a challenge to retrieve a package. There are also multiple races, as well as an iconic car scramble meant to distract police officers.

9’The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift' (2006)

Vin Diesel is still majorly absent inTokyo Drift, except for a cameo at the end. The film focuses on car-loving high-schooler Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), who is sent to live with his father, a U.S. Navy lieutenant stationed in Tokyo, after getting into too much trouble with the law. There, he befriends military brat Twinkie (Bow Wow), who introduces him to the city’s fun but occasionally dangerous drift racing circuit.

Trouble in Japan

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Regarded as one of the simplest and most enjoyable installments in the franchise,Tokyo Driftdidn’t net Justin Lin any awards, but it put him squarely in Hollywood’s big headlights. The opening sequence alone is a tour de force of saturated tension and clever editing. Overall, it isa triumph of stylish race choreography. On top of that, a techno and Hip Hop soundtrack and a neon ambiance infuse the proceedings, while Lucas Black excels as the driver.

SCC Magazinenoted that the film has faster cars and features more drifting. Consequently, there are way more crashing incidents.Carscoopalso discloses thatseveral stunts went wrong, so what we see in the film is basically what happened behind the scenes.

8’Fast & Furious' (2009)

Once upon a time, the good people at Universal Pictures were less creative with titles, so, for the fourth installment, they simply omitted the word “the” from the first film’s title. The engine was thus reignited inFast & Furious, and in line with many predictions, Vin Diesel returned.

On this occasion, Dom comes out of hiding when his lover gets murdered. As he tools around in his Dodge, he crosses paths with Brian O’Connor. The two men then agree to put their differences aside to investigate the killing.

Justice for Letty

Fast & Furious

Fast & Furiousmight be leaner than the installments that came after it, but the simplicity helps. There isn‘t a second of pretension, and the 107-minute running time moves as fast as the cars. It’s gorgeously shot and composed as well, with particular attention given to that 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi that’s the grieving Dom’s only consolation and refuge.

There areseveral instances of explosions and T-boning(notably during the tunnel car chase) in the film, which explains the crash statistics. However, the numbers are a little lower because dialogue and characterization are prioritized more than they are in other films.

7’Fast Five' (2011)

Dom and his ‘family’ have bigger dreams inFast Five. They have concocted a way to make themselves rich forever, and it involves stealing $100 million from Brazilian crime boss, Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida). However, their plan is at risk because the DSS agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has vowed not to rest until they are all behind bars.

A Major Turning Point

Fast Fivemarked the franchise’s transition into a mega-heist saga, and plenty of billions have been made after that. The climactic vault heist alone — filmed across four weeks — accounts for 90% of the car damage. But this isn’t just another standard action flick. It succeeds largely on the strong acting merits of its ensemble.

All the fan favorites from the previous movies are recalled and none of them disappoints. Almeida also shines. Thanks to him, we get one ofthe franchise’s best villains. Overall, director Lin handles this plot with aplomb, giving the actors lots of room to develop their front-seat rapport. Ultimately, this is a story of brotherhood and a dignified one at that.

6’Fast & Furious 6' (2013)

It takes a thief to catch a thief. Despite Dom running circles around him in the previous movie, Hobbs approaches him for help inFast & Furious 6.He needs to capture a group of mercenary drivers, led by Owen Shaw, who always evade him. But what’s in it for Dom? If he and his buddies can get the job done, all their lawbreaking records will be erased.

Total Carnage

Fast & Furious 6

There is a tank inFast & Furious 6,and it turns several cars to paste so viciously a wrecking yard owner will be jealous. Plus, there is the wild airport scene and many other moments guaranteed to make insurance company owners furious. Thisis an all-action affair, and you are unlikely to yearn for anything more. It’s the movie where Dom goes full Marvel by flying across a bridge to catch his lover before she hits the ground. Car Man would be a great superhero name for him.

5’Furious 7' (2015)

After defeating Owen Shaw, Dom’s crew looks forward to tranquility inFurious 7. But that’s not possible because Owen’s bro, Deckard (Jason Statham,) is out for revenge. And he is seemingly deadlier than all of them. Luckily, a government agent presents a quid pro quo proposal. He’ll help them if they help him rescue a kidnapped hacker.

Revenge Comes with Plenty of Damage

Jason Statham nearlysteals the picture right from under its usual stars, and it’s no surprise that he has been kept around ever since. There aretons of unrealistic stunts, including the famous one where. Dom and Brian drive a Lykan HyperSport supercar with no brakes through two Abu Dhabi skyscrapers. But you’ll love everything you see.

Car lovers will shed tears because of the damage though. The Wall Street Journalreports that over 40 vehicles were destroyed during the mountain-highway chase scene in Colorado’s Monarch Pass and that only 10% of the film was CGI, meaning most of the wreckage we see is real.

4’The Fate of the Furious' (2017)

The Fate of the Furiousfinds Dom on the road to moral renewal. However, his idyllic life is interrupted once again when a mysterious cyberterrorist named Cypher (Charlize Theron) kidnaps him and forces him to betray his team. Unwilling to give up on him, Dom’s crew gets to work.

One of Cinema’s Best Female Villains

The Fate of the Furious

Missiles? Russia? The Fate of the Furiousis a proper spy movie, proof of how far the franchise has come.Cipher is fierce and seductive, while the rest of the cast plays to the best of their strengths. Who can ever forgetJason Statham taking on various goons inside a planewhile babysitting? And you won’t have to look too hard to see the damage. Just observe the mess when Cipher hacks into the electronics systems of numerous cars, remotely controlling them via auto-drive.

3’Hobbs & Shaw' (2019)

It’s hard to pinpoint where exactly theFast & Furiousfranchise jumped the shark, butHobb & Shawis a good guess. But never mind – it’s still a grabber. Here we have Idris Elba calling himself the Black Superman. His character has superhuman strength and possesses a pathogen that could do Thanos' kind of damage to the world. Who better to stop him than Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw?

Sci-Fi Madness

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

Hobbs & Shawhas a low wreckage count because it focuses more on its sci-fi elements andfeatures fewer cars. Its plot could still work if it was plucked out of theFast & Furiousfranchise and planted somewhere else. Cars might be fewer, but the humor is better. Additionally, the film benefits from epic location cinematography. Whose idea was this? It doesn’t matter. Hopefully, we’ll get a sequel one day.

2’F9' (2021)

ForF9,the members of the writer’s room sat down and decided that Dom had an estranged brother named Jakob (John Cena). He is a brilliant driver too, and he happens to have been roped into the crazy machinations of Cipher, so our hero steps up. After all, if there is one man who can save the world from automotive ruin, it’s Dom.

The Most PG Entry of the Franchise

F9: The Fast Saga

F9isan unmitigated delight for people of all ages. Even if your kids are too little to catch all the rapid-fire exchanges, they’re sure to enjoy all the action and the prevailing sense of anarchy. It almost feels like John Cena was cast to spite Dwayne Johnson. “We can replace you with someone just like that!” Was it a deliberate move to make The Rock jealous? Well, he came running back.

But that’s not the issue. The issue is the slingshot scene involving the Hellcat Widebody, the space scene… and the fact that too many good cars get wrecked. From Montequinto to Edinburgh, the drivers keep coming up with the slightest excuse to crash into each other.
