Top Guncelebrated its 30th anniversary 2 years ago, and since then, Tom Cruise has announced that the sequel is in the works with filming set to begin soon. However, there are a lot of questions concerning this sequel, and number one is: Will Val Kilmer be back as Ice Man? Ice Man can most certainly return, but Anthony Edwards' Goose can’t unless he comes back asGoose Ghost, which the actor pitched on late night TV last year. While Goose can’t come back to hang with his literally old friend Maverick now, he’s opted to explain where the nickname Goose came from.
In a new interview,Anthony Edwardsdiscussed the iconic 1986 movieTop Gun. Specifically, Edwards talked about where the name Goose originated from for his character. As it turns out, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw wasn’t that great of a pilot, or at the very least had a poor memory. As Edwards explains, Bradshaw got his nickname in a rather silly way.
“Goose was a guy who in real life was in an accident with an airplane where they lost an engine and he called out the wrong engine being out, so they fired off the other engine. And so as a result, the plane went into the water and so he got the name Goose for having messed up. Silly Goose is what it was.”
Top Guncalling Nick Bradshaw Silly Goose doesn’t really seem like a military nickname at all, especially after he crashed a plane into the ocean. You’d think that Nick Bradshaw would’ve gotten a more severe new name from his military buds like, “dumb ass,” or something maybe even a little more vulgar. Hell,Maverickcrashed a jet in the ocean and killed Goose. What’s his nickname? Maybe that will be discussed in Top Gun 2.
As for thelong-awaited sequel to Top Gun, Tom Cruise has promised that there will be jets and aircraft carriers. The actor even hinted at a return to the shirtless volleyball scene on the beach…Cue Kenny Loggins' “Playing with the Boys.” The sequel is officially calledMaverick, and filming is set to begin this summer with a release date of July 12th, 2019. Joseph Kosinski will direct the sequel after previously working with Cruise onOblivion. Other than that, it’s anybody’s guess.
Anthony Edwards hashad an amazing careersinceRevenge of the NerdsandTop Gun, but fans mostly want to talk about those two movies that are now well over 30 years old. Edwards doesn’t seem to mind and has a good sense of humor about everything, especially pitching the idea of Ghost Goose, which is still a pretty great idea.
