WhenStar Wars: The Force Awakenswas in production, some enterprising paparazzi deployed spy drones, successfully snapping pictures from the set. These drones gave us our first look at the newResistance base, the return of theMillennium Falconand a variety of differentX-Wings. The production team behindStar Wars: Episode VIIIhas a sure fire why to deal with drones this time around. And it sounds like they’ve declared war!

ForgetStar Wars, this latest sequel is turning into a Drone war! While some of the Drones sent to infiltrate the Greenham Common set the first time around were successful, that probably won’t happen again. The original problem stemmed fromStar Wars: The Force Awakensshooting on public property. Star Wars: Episode VIII will utilize these same tactics. Some of the sequel’s exteriors will be shot in Dubrovnik, Croatia. But about keeping incoming drones out of the production teams airspace,MosCroatiahad this warning.

The Last Jedi

“There is a special team with drones that will remove the uninvited drones so that no recording can be conducted by the public.”

Pretty hi-tech and hard core, right? If nothing else, it will be fun to watch some of theStar Wars dronestake on the paparazzi drones. And this advanced warning gives the spies time to retrofit their drones with the proper combat gear.

Star Wars

MosCroatiaclaims that there will be over 600 guards on active duty, sitting at various assigned posts, ensuring that no one gets through to snap images from the set. This number sounds a little exaggerated, but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. The website is in Croatian, so it’s possible that something got lost in the translation to English. As it stands, those working on the production stationed in Croatia claim that the production is utilizing anti-drones, an army of paparrazi hunting guards, and they’ve handed over $4.3 million to the country to ensure none of the fans get an advanced sneak peek. What could they possibly be filming that is worth these types of tactics?
