Man of SteelstarHenry Cavillcontinues to discuss hisSupermanreturn, with the actor now revealing what his goals are for the character going forward. Speaking withScreen Rant, Cavill declared that he wants audiences to “feel like they can fly” when they leave the theater and teases a much more hopeful, inspirational version of the character than he has portrayed before.
“There is so much in the way of conversations to be had. Obviously, I have a very close connection to the character. And there is something extraordinarily special about him; extraordinarily special about his capacity to give and to love. I don’t mean romantically; I mean his love for Earth and for the people who live here, and to make people feel powerful—to make people feel like Superman themselves. I have plenty of desires for this, of course, which will be discussed more in time. But the most important thing, which I will be aiming for, is for the audience to leave the cinema and to feel like they can fly, to feel like they can protect, and to feel like they want to give to everyone else. That would be my goal.”

This is not the first time that Cavill has hinted at a return to a more positive, optimistic Superman, with the actor invoking memories of the Christopher Reeve version from the 1978Supermanmovie. The poster for which carried the iconic tagline “You’ll believe a man can fly.”
“There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman,”the actor said recently, suggesting that his tenure as Superman will leave behind the brooding version of the character that has largely inhabited the DC Cinematic Universe and the Snyder-Verse so far.

While details of Cavill’s comeback asSupermanremain largely under wraps, a recent report has claimed that, while the actor “made a one-off deal” to appear in a post-credits scene at the end ofBlack Adam, sources have said that “the studio is definitely interested in more from the star (including a solo outing).”This likely means that Superman will feature in further cameo appearances throughout the DC Cinematic Universe before finally leadingMan of Steel 2.
Cavill’s return inBlack Adamwas one of the worst-kept secrets in cinematic history, and the actor quickly started discussing putting the iconic suit back on again.“It was a very powerful moment for me,” he said. “I wasn’t too sure how it’s going to feel, whether it’s going to be ‘cool, back in the suit,’ or whether it was going to be something which was very emotionally connective because I put the Man of Steel suit back on. I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit, and it was incredibly important to me to just be standing and enjoying that moment. Yeah, that is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again.”
His new commitment toSupermanhas been posited as one of the reasons why Henry Cavill decided to (rather suddenly)walk away from his role as Geralt in the Netflix series,The Witcher. So, here’s hoping that his return as Superman will be worth it.
