While shuffling around the movies available on any given service is never unusual,HBO Maxhas a long list of movies leaving the service this month. As they make room for their new arrivals and as their contracts end, not only are many popular movies leaving the service, but some entire franchises will no longer be there. If you’ve been relying on this service for some of your favorite movies, you’re going to want to double-check they aren’t set to leave before you get a chance to watch them.
It’s possible that all of these popular movies are leaving to be replaced with equally popular movies (which viewers can help decide by checking out what’scoming to HBO in August), but for now, all we can do is watch these until Aug. 31st when we can’t any more (and wait to see what HBO may release in September). For now, this will be your last chance to watch these great movies before they leave this platform and move onto the next.

Harry Potter Movies
Yes, the entireHarry Potterfranchise will be leaving the service this month. The franchise chronicles young Harry’s story as he discovers he’s a part of the wizarding world and enrolls in Hogwarts, going to school to learn how to control and properly use his magic. Each year he learns more about the wizarding world and continues to find himself in more and more trouble as the dark forces that previously terrorized the world and killed his parents are searching for an opportunity to rise again. All eight movies will no longer be available to watch on HBO Max after this month, and won’t be back until the service can get contracts for them again.
Ocean’s Trilogy
Ocean’s Eleven,Ocean’s Twelve, andOcean’s Thirteenwill no longer be available on HBO Max. The series is based on a 1960s film with the iconic Rat Pack,Ocean’s 11, and is all based around heists. Danny Ocean, an expert thief, was recently released from prison and is already planning an elaborate heist in the hopes to win back his ex-wife. He plans to rob three casinos in Las Vegas, and recruits ten other criminals to help him pull it off.

Later, when the crew is blackmailed by the casino owner they stole from, they have to pay back the money plus interest in two weeks, so they travel to Europe and plan three different heists there to be able to earn enough. Finally, the crew plans to ruin a new casino’s opening night, hoping to rig as many of the games as they can because the owner double-crossed one of them. With no lack of hijinks, these movies are classic in the heist genre, and aren’t something you should miss out on.
Final Destination Movies
All five of the supernatural horror seriesFinal Destinationwill be leaving this month, perhaps to make room for the premier of thenewFinal Destinationon HBO Max, the sixth installment in the series. Each movie follows a small group of people who all know each other in different ways, whether they are classmates, colleagues, or friends. The protagonist has a sudden premonition of a mass-casualty accident about to happen, and as such, each group manages to avoid dying in these events.
However, the survivors are slowly killed off one at a time after the event, dying off unexpectedlyin complicated cause and effect accidents, as they cheated death once and Death isn’t ready to give up on them yet. It’s unique compared to most other horror films as the antagonist isn’t the usual slasher, ghost, or other physical being that is tormenting the groups, but Death itself, something it seems impossible they are going to escape from. If you can’t get enough of the movies, or you’ll miss them when they’re gone, there’s also two comics and nine novels you could get to tide you over.

Blade Trilogy
With thecoming MCU reboot, it’s likely theBladetrilogy won’t be on HBO Max for a long time after it leaves this month. The original vampire trilogyis based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, Blade is a vampire hunter who has sworn vengeance on them because they caused the death of his mother. Throughout the trilogy, he faces many vampire-related difficulties. As he investigates a feud started between ‘pure-blood’ vampires and those who had been turned in the first movie, Blade discovers a plot to raise a blood god that he must stop at all costs.

In the second film, a rare mutation has occurred in which vampires dubbed ‘Reapers’ now exist, and they have an insatiable bloodlust, not caring who they prey on or how many. Blade has to team up with the very vampires he’s tried to kill and who have tried to kill him in order to protect the world from this new threat. Then, finally, after being framed for a murder and now wanted by the FBI, Blade is on the run while he tries to figure out how to stop Dracula, the first and most powerful vampire who was just resurrected. If you’re into heroes and vampires, you should definitely give these a watch before they leave.
The Dark Knight
Another comic book movie leaving the service isThe Dark Knight. There have beenmanyBatmanmoviesover the years, all with different actors playing the titular role, but this is perhaps the most iconic one, especially for Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker, for which he won an Oscar for.The Dark Knightis the second movie in the Christian Bale trilogy, following Batman and the Joker’s struggles against one another as Joker begins to terrorize the city, often rigging buildings and vehicles with explosives and making ultimatums in which at least one of them will explode, leaving Batman to try to stop him and yet continue to fail. Definitely give this one a watch before it leaves.
This is your last chance to see the classic sports comedySpace Jamthis month. The film is a fictional story about the time between Michael Jordan’s initial NBA retirement and his return a few years later, bringing live action and animation together as popular characters from theLooney Tunesalso star in the film. Beetlejuice
The fantasy horror comedy filmBeetlejuicelives up to all three genres. A recently deceased couple are haunting their former home when a new family buys, renovates, and takes residence in their home. The daughter, Lydia, is the only one who can see the ghosts, and befriends them. Despite this, the couple has to remain in their house for a while or there will be dire consequences, and they would rather do that alone, so they contact Beetlejuice, a freelance ‘bio-exorcist’ to haunt the house and scare the family away.
Things go awry when they discover his crude and often morbid behavior, and now, Lydia has to deal with him as he causes a ruckus as other outside parties begin to show interest in the fact that the house is haunted. The movie quickly became a classic as it went on to win an Oscar and three Saturn Awards, and even had an animated TV series spinoff and a Broadway musical adaptation. Even decades later, people still won’t stop hoping for a follow-up, and it seems like along-awaitedBeetlejuicesequelis in the works.
