After 8 movies, Warner Bros. is not ready to let go of the very lucrativeHarry Potterfranchise anytime soon. They are already planning a series of spinoffs, which begin in November 2016 withFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. As an added bonus, the screenplays are being written by creator of this universe herself,J.K. Rowling. In fact, quite a few franchise creatives are returning as well, including producerDavid Heymann. He recently spoke withColliderabout shooting the Fantastic Beasts series, as production ramps up on the first film.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them takes place years before Harry Potter arrived at Hogwarts. And it follows Newt Scamander as he creates a textbook on his journeys around the globe, looking for new and unusual creatures. While it’s not a direct sequel, it certainly should feel like aHarry Pottermovie, withHarry Potter and the Deathly HallowsdirectorDavid Yatesreturning.David Heymannreveals that production designer Stuart Craig is back as well. Says the producer:
“The experience of conjuring up these worlds is such fun. So to do it with [Rowling] and with Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram is involved too, and with David Yates, and Stuart Craig will be designing it; it’s great. It’s exciting, and it’s a great world to return to.”
David Heymannwent onto reveal when the movie will begin production, stating that, while a trilogy is being planned by Warner Bros., they are only concentrating on making this first installment for the time being:
“[It’s] Early, early, early days. Really early days. I mean we’re at the very beginning. We will shoot later on this year. The plan is to shoot late summer. We’re making just one film, but I believe there’s been talk about it being three. But we’re just talking about it as one.”
At this time, it hasn’t been confirmed that eitherDavid HeymannorDavid Yatesis returning for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel.
