Harrison Ford is set to star in the first regular television role of his career. Reportedly, theIndiana Jonesstar will lead a series adaptation of the docuseriesThe Staircase. As of now, the project is being shopped to various networks and streaming services, but with Ford’s name attached, it shouldn’t have any major issues in finding a home. Ford will also executive produce the series along with Antonio Campos, with Annapurna Television producing. Campos is on board to write the series as well.
Created by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, the original docuseries version ofThe Staircasewas first released in 2004. Years later, the documentarian added some updated information to the docuseries, andNetflixreleased it as a 13-episode series in 2018. It explores the real-life trial of American novelist Michael Peterson, who was accused of killing his wife in 2001. Police say Peterson bludgeoned his wife to death and staged the crime scene, though Peterson insisted her death was a freak accident. After he was convicted for the murder in 2003, Peterson was later granted a new trial and promptly released in 2017 for time served. To this day, the case continues to be a great source of debate for those familiar with the details of the story.
WhileHarrison Fordhas never had a regular starring role on a TV series, he had many appearances on various shows in the earlier years of his career. This includes minor roles on shows likeGunsmoke,Kung Fu,The Virginian, andThe F.B.I..The Star Wars Holiday Specialis also worth mentioning if we’re counting one-off TV specials, though Ford may prefer to forget about that one. As Ford’s star rose in Hollywood, however, his TV work became practically non-existent, as the actor hasn’t played a role on television since appearing in a cameo for an episode ofThe Indiana Jones Chroniclesin 1993.
It’s not clear if Ford will be playing Peterson or someone else involved in the case, but this role is still particularly interesting for him. The premise is very reminiscent of Ford’s 1993 movieThe Fugitive, which saw him star as an escaped convict who was wrongfully convicted for the murder of his wife. Of course, Ford is perhaps best known for his career-defining roles as Han Solo and Dr. Jones in theStar WarsandIndiana Jonesmovie franchises. He has also appeared in many other classic movies, includingAir Force One, theBlade Runnermovies, andK-19: The Widowmaker.
Recently, the new trailer dropped for Ford’s next big screen project. CalledThe Call of the Wild, the movie stars Ford as a man exploring the Yukon with his dog Buck during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. you may catch it in theaters when it is released on Jun 27, 2025. There’s no word yet on when we can expect to seeThe Staircasehit the small screen, but with the project now being shopped, hopefully it’s sooner rather than later. This news comes to us fromVariety.
