WithAlden Ehrenreichnow set to playHan Soloin the secondStar Warsspin-off, Disney and LucasFilm have turned their attention to casting the female lead. A new report claims that three actress' have tested in London this week for the female lead role,Tessa Thompson(Thor: Ragnarok),Zoe Kravitz(Mad Max: Fury Road) andNaomi Scott(Power Rangers). This is actually the second round of testing for the role, with the first round taking place this summer.
Varietyreports that directorsPhil LordandChris Millerhave taken their time meeting with talent for both this role, and the long-rumored Lando Calrissian role. Reports surfaced in August that Disney and LucasFilm were casting forLando Calrissian, while another rumor surfaced a day later that claimedDonald Gloverwas being eyed for the role. This report claims that the studio wanted to have another round of testing “to be certain on their decision,” but it isn’t known ifDonald Gloveris still their top choice.
As for the female lead, the character’s name was not given, but there was a report from August which claimed that the studio was castingSana Solo, who is believed to be Han Solo’s first wife. That report revealed the studio had narrowed that role down to four contenders, none of whom were white. None of the contenders were revealed in that report, but it’s worth noting that none of the contenders mentioned in this report are white.
The Sana Solo character was created by Jason Aaron and artist John Cassaday for the Star Wars #4 comic book, which hit store shelves in 2015. Sana is a skilled pilot who may or may not be married to Han Solo. She had to get hitched to Solo to pull off a smuggling job, but one of the two took their nuptials a little more seriously than the other. In the more recent comics, this created a love triangle betweenLeia, Sana and and Han, as Sana made her return after the events of the original trilogy.
