Good Burger 2 is now filming

In the sketch, Mitchell appeared as the lovably dimwitted cashier Ed. While Thompson’s character of Dexter was created for the film, he and Mitchell appeared together in several otherAll Thatsketches, ultimately leading to their self-titled sitcom.

Good Burger 2: The Plot

As a 5-minute comedy skit,Good Burger’splots onAll Thatwere pretty simple. While dealing with coworkers or customers, the well-meaning but clueless Ed always managed to mess something up. Obviously, a more complex storyline was needed when the sketch jumped to the big screen.

Kenan Thompson joined the cast as Dexter, a teen who works at Good Burger for the summer to pay off damages from crashing into his teacher’s car. Dexter befriends Ed as Good Burger works to fend off competition from the newly-opened Mondo Burger. The two save their beloved Good Burger when they discover that Mondo Burger is using an illegal chemical, getting the restaurant shut down.

So what’s changed after 25 years? As it’s relatively early in the production process, few specific details are available. An official loglinedoes give us an idea of what to expect. PerVariety,

“Dexter Reed is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.”

That synopsis gives us just enough information to build hype but not so much that anything significant is spoiled. It appears the sequel will follow a similar story as the original, with Dexter and Ed saving Good Burger from some outside threat. But maybe this time, it’s Dexter’s own doing. Could this lead to a rift between our two favorite employees? We can only speculate until more information is released, which should be in the coming weeks and months.

Good Burger 2: The Cast

As expected, both Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are back as Dexter and Ed, respectively. Also returning from the first outing is fellowAll Thatcast members Josh Server and Lori Beth Denberg, who played drive-thru employee Fizz and customer Connie Muldoon, respectively. Carmen Electra is also back as Roxanne, a henchwoman of the original antagonist Kurt Bozwell.

The logline noted a “new crew” of employees, which strongly implies that several new cast members will be on hand serving up those oh-so-good burgers. Lil Rel Howery is Cecil McNevin, a new antagonist and lawyer from MegaCorp, while Jillian Bell is MegaCorp CEO Katt Boswell. Ed reportedly has a son this time around, played by Alex R. Hibbert and appropriately named Ed2. Kamaia Fairburn, Anabel Graetz, Fabrizio Guido, and Emily and Elizabeth Hinkler are on hand as the new Good Burger employees.

Though it’s been 25 years since the original, Mitchell has kept his Ed character alive. He performed the rolealongside Jimmy Fallon(and Thompson’sAll Thatcharacter Lester Oakes) onThe Tonight Showin 2015. More recently, Mitchell returned as Ed in severalGood Burgersketches as a part of the 2019All Thatrevival.

The original movie attracted several big names of the day for its supporting cast. Who could forget Sinbad’s turn as Dexter’s teacher Mr. Wheat, who sets the film’s entire plot in motion? The late, great Abe Vigoda was also on hand as elderly employee Otis. Even Shaquille O’Neal made an appearance.

Finally,All Thatexecutive producer and one-time Nickelodeon hitmaker Dan Schneider was the restaurant’s owner Mr. Baily, thoughthe disgraced Schneiderobviously has no involvement inGood Burger 2.But this sequel, along withZoey 102and theiCarlyandAll Thatreboots, shows that Nickelodeon and Paramount+ don’t want the liability of Schneider as an employee but are still mining his IP for new content.

Additional information on new cast members or any more returnees from the original will likely follow as production continues.
