Shortly afterPaul Feigwas announced to take over theGhostbustersreboot, the director revealed back in Octoberthat he wants it to be “really scary,” with anotherunconfirmed report from Decemberhinting that it he may even aim for an R rating. With production slated to begin later this year, there is still much we don’t know about the project, except that it will starKristen Wiig,Melissa McCarthy,Leslie JonesandKate McKinnon. On Sunday night,Paul Feigappeared on AMC’sTalking Dead, where he revealed that the hit zombie seriesThe Walking Deadis inspiring hisGhostbustersreboot.

“I will say, I was very inspired by this show. What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it’s always about gauntlet run. And that’s something, an element I want to bring to thisGhostbustersreboot is having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural and all that. I really feed off ofThe Walking Dead.”

Ghostbusters

Obviously, this will be a much different version ofGhostbusters, compared to the original 1984 supernatural comedy. The director is co-writing the script withKatie Dippold(The Heat), but he also said in a January interview that they still plan on having plenty of comedy elements.

“Both [screenwriter Katie Dippold] and I are obsessed with how do we make comedy really scary? […] I think funny people in peril and in danger is one of the best forms of comedy, and I really like things to play very real while funny things are happening. So that’s what both Katie and I really want to do with this one is make it crazy funny but also you’re scared at the same time.”

Ghostbusters 2016

Do you think thisGhostbusterscan pull offThe Walking Deadthrills along with big laughs at the same time? It certainly does seem like a daunting task ahead, but hopefully we learn much more about their approach to this reboot before it hits theaters on August 05, 2025.
