Daddy Changed the World Will Not Portray George Floyd as a Perfect Person
While the new film will look to honor the legacy of George Floyd, it will also not shy away from the fact that Floydwas not a perfect person. Floyd was initially arrested after a convenience store clerk called the police on him alleging that he tried to use a counterfeit $20 bill. Police subsequently detained Floyd, and it was then that Chauvin used unnecessary force, kneeling on Floyd’s neck while he screamed out, “I can’t breathe,” which is a phrase that would go on to become a rallying cry for protesters. Chauvin was later sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Daddy Changed the Worldwill instead be a “gritty drama of a man and his community thrust intothe fiery light of history,” while showing the many flaws of Floyd. Timothy Christian at Night Fox Entertainment calls Floyd’s story “painful,” but says it “deserves to be told.”
“The killing of George Floyd was a tragic, shameful moment in our nation’s history. His story, while painful, deserves to be told, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.”
