Just days afterGame of Thrones Season 7hadbegan shootingin Northern Ireland, withJim Broadbentannounced as the first new cast member, the show has now added TV legendAngela Lansbury. No details were given for what character she will play, but the actress will be appearing in two Season 7 episodes. The actress will be required on set for four days of work to film this role.
There was recently a leakedcasting callthat offered details about nine new characters, but the only female role was for a “Lovely Lady” described as a younger courtesan who would be required to go nude. The news ofAngela Lansbury’s casting first surfaced on the German news siteBild, but they didn’t offer any details about the character, or when she may begin shooting. It’s also possible that she could come back for the eighth and final season, since both will be truncated.
It was recently confirmed thatGame of Thrones Season 7will premiere inSummer 2017, although no concrete premiere date was released. Production started later than usual this year, since the show requires colder climates since winter has finally come to Westeros. Production will take place in Northern Ireland along with Iceland and Spain. It was also confirmed at Comic-Con that Season 7 will span seven episodes, with Season 8 spanning just six episodes.
Game of Thrones Season 7will include series veteransMark Mylod,Jeremy PodeswaandAlan Taylor, along with series newcomerMatt Shakman. Locations for shooting in Spain will include Sevilla, Caceres, Almodovar del Rio, Santiponce, Zumaia and Bermeo, but no further details were revealed. HBO has also teased that a spin-off could be happening after the eighth and final season airs, which will likely happen sometime in the year 2018.
HBO didn’t confirm any cast members at Comic-Con, but it’s clear that casting is still actively under way, after reports ofJim BroadbentandAngela Lansburysigning on.Angela Lansburyis best known for playing Jessica Fletcher in the iconic seriesMurder, She Wrote, which ran for 12 seasons between 1984 and 1996. She also reprised her Jessica Fletcher role in four TV movies between 1997 and 2003.
