Earlier this month, HBO finally released the first footage fromSeason 6ofGame of Thronesin anew trailer, which revealed a number of important details. One of the trailer’s first scenes showed Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) returning from Dorne, with his dead daughter Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free) in tow, and his reunion with sister/lover Cersei (Lena Headey). Both of these siblings went through quite a lot inSeason 5, and the trailer hints that they plan on getting back everything that was taken from them asSeason 6kicks off.Entertainment Weeklycaught up withLena Headey, who says thatSeason 6will take Cersei and Jaimie’s relationship to some weird and dark places.
“It’s probably her most interesting season. She really has nothing to lose and she has everything to gain from a horrible position she finds herself in. Her relationship with Jaime is at an all-time weird level. It’s juicy, and it’s so f-king dark.”
At the beginning ofSeason 5, theLannistersreceived an ominous message from Dorne, where they had sent their daughter Myrcella to marry Trystane Martell (Toby Sebastian) inSeason 2. Jaime then set off for Dorne with Bronn (Jerome Flynn) to bring his daughter home, but things didn’t go exactly as planned. Before Jaime and Myrcella set sail for King’s Landing, Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) kisses Myrcella on the lips, coating her lips with poison, as she dies shortly after leaving Dorne.
As for Cersei, she spent part of last season imprisoned by the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce), after her cousin Lancel Lannister (Eugene Simon), now one of the Sparrows, confessed to his incestuous relationship with Cersei. The season ended with Cersei being sent back to the Red Keep, forced to walk naked for all in King’s Landing to see. After she finally returned home, she was presented with a new member of her Kingsguard, the formerly-deceased Gregor Clegane, a.k.a. The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson), who was resurrected from the dead through Qyburn’s (Anton Lesser) experiments.
The trailer also showed Lancel ordering The Mountain to step aside, “or there will be violence,” but Cersei responds by stating that she chooses violence. We also saw in the trailer that Jaime and Cersei will continue their illicit romantic affair, while new report reveals that Cersei wants Jaime’s help to defeat the militant Sparrows.
