22 Jump StreetwriterRodney Rothmanhas gathered an impressive cast for his directorial debut, a space comedy entitledThe Something, which has been in the works for quite some time.The Hollywood Reporterreveals thatSeth Rogen,Zach GalifianakisandBill Haderhave all been set to star. While it isn’t known when production will get under way, it seems this project is finally coming together.
We first reported onThe Somethingway back in February 2010, when Universal Pictures preemptively picked upRodney Rothman’s pitch. At the time, the project was described as an ensemble horror/comedy hybrid set in deep space, which was being compared toZombieland. The story centers on a crew of male astronauts who have been stranded inouter spacefor years, when they finally come across another ship.Deadlineadds that both of these crews hate each other, but they have to find a way to work together.
Universal has given the green light for this project, and they will distribute thesci-fi comedy.Rodney Rothmanwill produce with Point Grey’sSeth Rogen,Evan Goldbergand James Weaver, alongside Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane and Joseph Drake.Rodney Rothman’s other writing credits includeGrudge Matchand the upcoming23 Jump Street. He also became the youngest head writer forLate Show with David Lettermanin the show’s history, at the age of 24.
This comedy will mark the first time thatSeth RogenandBill Haderhave worked withZach Galifianakis. However,Seth RogenandBill Haderhave collaborated on numerous projects, such asPineapple Express,SuperbadandKnocked Up. They both also lend their voices to the upcoming animated comedySausage Party, which hits theaters this August.
