Fraggle Rockis making a comeback. As announced for Apple TV+, the company has created a new short-form series titledFraggle Rock: Rock On. The series will be available for free on the streaming service, with the first episode available now. Apple has also revealed a trailer for the show, which features the return of Jim Henson’s beloved Muppets after more than three decades off the air.
The teaser is filled with familiarity for people who grew up with the show, as recognizable caves, characters and a catchy tune erupt with high energy. This is more of a revival than a reboot, so fans need not worry that Apple is going to ruin anyone’s childhoods with this one.Gobo, Red, Boober, Mokey, Wembley and Uncle Traveling Mattwill all be on board for these new adventures. 3 to 5 minutes episodes will be released weekly on Tuesdays.
Perhaps most impressively is that this show is beingproduced by Appleand the Jim Henson Company during this period of social distancing.Fraggle Rock: Rock Onis being shot using iPhone 11s from the homes of the production team, with individual artists from all over the U.S. contributing. Halle Stanford and John Tartaglia serve as executive producers on the short-form series.
InFraggle Rock: Rock On, the Fraggles are in different parts of the Fraggle Rock caves, but they can still find ways to have fun together, with music, silliness, special guests, and the help of devices created by the industrious Doozers, lovingly called the Doozertubes! The first mini-episode is titledShine On. In it, new Doozertubes are delivered to the Fraggles' caves, allowing them to come together for a favorite song “Shine On, Shine On Me.”
Fraggle Rock originally premiered in 1983 and ran for a total of 96 episodes. In 2016, HBO beganstreaming the seriesin HD in its entirety, but this is the first time that new episodes have been produced since the series went off the air in 1987.
