One of the actors most synonymously associated with the role of Jason in theFriday the 13thfranchise wants to have a stab at playing Michael Myers in aHalloweenmovie.Kane Hodderhas become something of a slasher icon over the years, having starred in four of the laterFriday the 13thmovies as the machete-wielding maniac known as Jason Voorhees, as well as theHatchetfranchise. Now, he’s got his sights set on Michael Myers and, from his standpoint, you may’t argue with his reasoning.
Kane Hodder is currently promoting the release of the fourthHatchetmovieVictor Crowley, which is now available on home video. During a recent interview, he revealed that he would like to playMichael Myersin a futureHalloweenmovie so that he can be at least loosely associated with most of the big, iconic slashers in horror movie history. Here’s what he had to say.
“It’s pretty cool to say I did one shot as Freddy, several scenes as Leatherface, four of the movies asJason. I just need to do a movie version somehow of Michael [Myers].”
To recap, Kane Hodder was Jason in severalFriday the 13thmovies, includingFriday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan,Jason Goes to Hell: The Final FridayandJason X. As for Leatherface, he played the character during the stunt scenes inLeatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre IIIwhich, interestingly enough, actually made it so heappeared in Freddy vs. Jason, as that movie was playing in the background at one point with one of Hodder’s scenes featured. He also provided Freddy Krueger’s gloved hand inJason Goes to Hell. So, adding Michael Myers to the list would make for a pretty impressive career.
How realistic is this dream that Kane Hodder has to also play Michael Myers at some point? We can’t say it’s impossible, but it doesn’t look great. Currently, Blumhouse is filming theirHalloweensequel that will pick up right where the original left off and will ignore every single sequel. Nick Castle, who played Michael Myers originally has returned for the sequel. While many details are being kept under wraps, it seems more and more like this movie may serve as some kind of conclusion to the franchise. But that’s just a guess. Even so, there are also some other practicalities to consider.
At 63-years-old, Kane Hodder isn’t getting any younger. Granted,Nick Castle is 70, but still. Slasher movies can be demanding for an actor and age doesn’t make that any easier. Not to mention that there’s no indication that there will be anotherHalloweenmovie after this and, what’s further, there’s certainly no indication that anyone associated with the franchise is planning on asking Hodder to be Michael Myers. Who knows? Maybe he could play the part in some smaller, official capacity somehow. It would be pretty cool to have one guy associated with all of these beloved slashers.
