Sony Pictures has released a new TV spot for their highly-anticipated sci-fi thrillerPassengers, which is set to hit theaters on December 21. The studio released thefirst trailerin September, but we haven’t seen anything else from this until now. With just a month and a half until it hits theaters, that will surely change, withPassengersopening in quite the competitive time frame.

With nine movies opening within just nine days of each other, it’ll be interesting to see howPassengersfares in this crowded field.
On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.
This TV spot gives us a brief glimpse at what could be the start of one of the movie’ssex scenes, which made headlines around this time last year.Jennifer Lawrencerevealed in an interview that she needed to get drunk to perform, because she hated the idea of kissing her married co-starChris Pratt. The actress also revealed in that interview that she was the most vulnerable she’s ever been after that scene, and while she knew she didn’t do anything wrong, the actress still described it as a “bizarre experience.”
Morten Tyldum(The Imitation Game) is directing from an original screenplay byJon Spaihts, which landed on the Black List in 2007. The project was previously being developed withKeanu ReevesandReese Witherspoonset to star, but that incarnation never moved forward, untilMorten Tyldumcame aboard and castJennifer LawrenceandChris Pratt.
