When the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, “Wendy” (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in FX’sAlien: Earth.

In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness). The first hybrid prototype named “Wendy” marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship collides into Prodigy City, “Wendy” and the other hybrids encounter mysterious life forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.

‘Ailen: Earth’ Star Says It’s “Impossible” To Compare Her Character to Ripley

Keeping up with franchise tradition,Alien: Earthfeatures a female character at the forefront, with Sydney Chandler playing the lead this time around. However, Chander is not playing the usual kind of human protagonist in the upcoming series. She is playing Wendy, a hybrid robot prototype that is a part of a new technological development officially described as “humanoid robots infused with human consciousness.” During a recent interview, Chandler discussed the “female identity” of the franchise, and howAlien: Earthasks the age-old question about the future of humanity.

“I feel like theAlienfranchise has a female identity, both with Ripley’s character in the films and then, of course, the fact that the aliens themselves are matriarchal, they have a queen. It feels very much like a female-focused show. Sydney’s character is someone who’s trying to figure out what her role is in this world and, on some level, the age-old question of, does humanity deserve to survive?”

For those who want to compare her character to Ripley, Chandler makes it clear that it is “impossible” to do so. However, she hopes audiences gravitate to Wendy as much as she did.

“I don’t even want to try to compare my character with Ripley. That’s just impossible to do. But I hope people like Wendy as much as I love her…. She’s my favorite character that I’ve ever been able to play.”
