Devon Sawa, the teenage heartthrob known for his roles in ’90s horror gems likeIdle HandsandFinal Destination, has shared that most ofhis co-stars in the family sports comedyLittle Giantswant a reunion. Considering the film depicted a whole football team, it’s not a small group to bring together again after all these years, but it looks like Sawa is working hard to make it happen.

Sawa took toX, formerly known as Twitter, to start a campaign to gather the stars of the 1994 film in one room and rekindle the magic of the beloved family comedy. His post teases the fact that he’s been talking with his co-stars from the movie, and he even mentions the American Cinematheque account to get a Q&A going. He also mentions aLittle GiantsEaster Egg that maybe some will recognize:

“I’ve 80% of the cast of Little Giants in my DMs talking about a 30 year reunion. Hey @am_cinematheque would you be interested in doing a screening & Q&A? I did one in NZ for a different film & it was pretty cool. Brought back so many memories. Annexation of Puerto Rico anyone?”

A few hours later, Sawarepostedthe original message and changed the percentage of theLittle Giantscast willing to participate in the reunion to 85%. It’s a stretch, but consideringRick Moranis was a huge partof the film, and he’s been absent from the Hollywood spotlight for decades, could this 5% mean theHoney, I Shrunk the Kidsstar is in? In any case, Sawa’s plans apparently sound appealing to theAmerican Cinematheque, who replied to Sawa and advised the actor to “Please email hello@americancinematheque.com.”

Little Giants

Directed by Duwayne Robert Dunham and produced by Amblin Entertainment,Little Giantstells the story of Danny and Kevin O’Shea, two brothers whocoach Pee-Wee Football teamsthat stand on extremely opposite sides of the sporting spectrum. Kevin’s team, the Pee-Wee Cowboys, is the typical “ultra-macho” team, and Danny’s daughter is taken off the roster because she’s a girl. Becky decides to convince her father to put together another team to prove to Kevin and the Cowboys that they are worthy opponents.

The film stars Rick Moranis, Ed O’Neill, Devon Sawa, Shawna Waldron, Mary Ellen Trainor, Todd Bosley, and Brian Haley, among others, and features cameos by football legends John Madden, Steve Emtman, Bruce Smith, Emmitt Smith, and Tim Brown. The sports comedy is now a favorite for many of a certain generation who would no doubt love to see the cast back together again after all this time.

Devon Sawa’s Quiet Resurgence

After a short run in the 1990s in films likeCasper,Little Giants,Wild America, andFinal Destination, Sawa somewhat vanished from the Hollywood spotlight. A few roles in lesser-known films weren’t enough to bring him back to the glory days as a teenage heartthrob, but recent roles over the last decade have led to the former star’s quiet resurgence as he delivers stellar performances in some intriguing projects.

While he’s stayed away from big Hollywood roles, Sawa navigates the current part of his career by picking the roles he wants and not those he’s necessarily “supposed” to do as a former heartthrob. He’s not looking for the same glory he once had as a teenage star, and is instead seeking out captivating stories. His performance in the thrillerHunter Hunteris excellent, with the movie itself also being met with critical acclaim. As well asHunter Hunter, roles in the likes ofFinal Destination,Idle Hands,The Exorcism of Molly Hartley,Black Friday, and theChuckyTV series demonstrate that, perhaps, Sawa was always destined for the horror genre rather than the teen heartthrob role.
