The previous franchise-best opening belongs to 2009’sThe Final Destination, which debuted to $27.4 million with a little assist from its 3D hook. That film ultimately grossed $66.4 million domestically and $186.1 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. According to the demo breakdowns heading into the weekend, women under 25 are hooked on this latest installment, and they’re closely followed by men under 25.

The ‘Final Destination’ Franchise Has Been a Steady Box Office Performer
The growth of theFinal Destinationfranchise has been remarkable. The first film, released in 2000, opened to $10 million but had great legs following its opening weekend and managed to gross $53.3 million domestically and $112.8 million worldwide on a $23 million budget. The openings for the subsequent films have all been strong over the years, all improving on the debut performance of the first movie.Final Destination 2came out of the gate with a $16.2 million opening weekend, whileFinal Destination 3took audiences on a roller coaster of doom with a $20.1 million opening. The studio is still riding high off the success ofA Minecraft Movie, which has grossed $409.1 million domestically and $910.1 million worldwide, andthe word-of-mouth smash,Sinners, which continues to amaze with a $217.8 million domestic gross and $287.1 million globally. Even with the arrival of another horror film in the marketplace, the studio is still expected to continue to score withSinners, proving that when horror is good, there’s room for all participants. Speaking of good horror,Final Destination Bloodlinesis also thebest-reviewed entry of the franchise,with a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%.

Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein from a screenplay by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor,Final Destination Bloodlinesfollows a college student who has inherited the same premonition of impending death from her grandmother. As her family and friends begin dying one by one, she’ll have to use this special ability to try and keep the body count to a minimum.
