2023 will signify curtains for the 2015 post-apocalyptic dramaFear the Walking Dead. While it’s been a long journey, the end is somewhat unexpected to some. The news of the show’s cancelation came in 2022 on the heels of its predecessor’s cancelation and the announcements of several spinoff series. According toVariety, Dan McDermott made the announcement of the show’s ending at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. It was included in a revelation of a larger vision forThe Walking Deaduniverse, which includedthe upcoming seriesThe Walking Dead: Dead Cityand the Daryl Dixon and Rick & Michonne spinoffs. Variety cited Dan McDermott, president of AMC Studios and networks, commenting on the future ofThe Walking Dead.

“It’s a truly exciting year for the Walking Dead Universe, as we conclude an epic journey onFear the Walking Dead, which became one of the most successful shows in the history of cable television.”

Fear the Walking Dead

This is evident by its current seven-year run.Fear the Walking Deadproved that a solid dramatic plot and the correct presentation could make a concept successful across various offerings. Now with season seven concluded and the last and final season before us, here are a few theories as to what fans might expect to take place in the last and final season.

Where Season 7 Left Off

The overreaching theme of season seven ofFear the Walking Deadis the ideology of coming full circle. WhileFear the Walking Deadis very much set in a landscape of zombies, it focuses on relationships. The current season was a continuation of the same following the characters Alicia, Morgan, Victor Strand, Dwight, and Daniel Salazar, characters fans have grown to loathe and love, and none of them disappointed the viewers. They delivered the drama.

Victor asserted his dominance as leader of the tower, basking in his egomania, his rise revealing a truer nature. Strand turns 180 degrees, reverting to his same icy interior and ruthless character exemplified in the beginning, and only one person can melt his heart and does so. Daniel Salazar returns to a place of extreme paranoia, once again guarded and lethal. Morgan’s vacillation reaches an apex. He yo-yos between following his strong moral inclinations and administering a cold justice. Dwight continues to show a tugging between returning to the man he once was and the man the apocalypse has led him to become. And Alicia finds her true north, stepping into the fullness of who she is.

Major antagonists are pivotal plot drivers inThe Walking Dead. Typically, each season focuses ona different villain in their world, a surfacing threat. Season eight was no different. Teddy became the primary villainous faction earlier in the season. The Doomsday cult becomes a rising menace. And Strand becomes an obvious antagonist. Then there is Padre, with whom Madison Clark has become an emissary by force.

What Fans Theorize About Season 8

There will be surprises! There is no finale worth its weight that does not have some interesting and unexpected plot points. However, the path ahead is not totally undefinable. So here are some theories of what could occur. Alicia’s fate will be confirmed. While she has suffered a bite and taken measures to stave off the transformation, it seemed of little effect. However, by the end of episode fifteen, there is an indication she’s very much alive. And it is reasonable to deduce she will be very instrumental in Madison’s evolution.Secondarily, fans will see Padre, but they will not like what they see. It was revealed in the final episode that Padre was indeed not a fantasy. However, they are not the utopia Alicia thinks them to be. They deal in kidnappings. AsScreenRantnotes, Madison worked for them so they would help her find her kids. And Morgan and Madison are heading there.

Thirdly, Madison could turn on Morgan, with the only thing keeping her from helping him out being a recent rescue. As of now, she has no impetus to do the right thing. She informed Morgan she had already written off her children. And the revelation of their fates has brought her confirmation about the path she travels. She might even come close to ending Morgan until Alicia makes her appearance at Padre.

Fourthly, there will be a reunion. There will be a time when all core characters, Daniel, Madison, Morgan, and Strand, will be in one place simultaneously. All things began with Madison and her nuclear family, only fitting that it end as such. With at least what remains. And if this series follows the flagship in the sense of closure, thenFear the Walking Deadwill indeed end with those they began with. However, what will come from that meeting could be tragic for some.

A Possible Tragedy

WhileThe Walking Deadended with a bit of a whimper, this will end with a bit more oomph. Two ways to accomplish this are an escalation in confrontationand the death of some titular figures. Alicia’s death has been teased as has Morgan’s and Madison’s in past seasons. So, who could possibly die? One would reasonably think the probability of Madison’s character expiring is low, being she was just brought back to the franchise.

While there is no way to be definitive on what will happen, a few things can be predicted with a fair amount of accuracy. There will be more vacillation, more conflict, and more drama. And ifThe Walking Deadcreators stick to the same model as they did for the flagship, the good guys win.

The twelve-episode final season ofFear the Walking Deadwill begin on May 14 on AMC. The season will be broken down into two segments equally divided into episodes. The second part airs later in the year, giving fans of the universe a lot to look forward to this spring.
